Just got mine yesterday, lots of bits of advertising to bin. Got teeny tiny Sudocrem, one nappy, 2 bibs, some washing liquid, some baby wash, detol wipes. I like them as they are handy travel size bits....and it's free. Make sure you don't put your telephone number on the form, I got bombarded by calls about child investments for months last time!

Bounty can fuck the fuck off frankly. I really am not that desperate for a tiny pot of sudocrem.

I hate the fact that they see pregnant women as an easy target, and refused the pack offered at my booking in appt.

I have joined the Boots parenting club though, which is probably just as bad.

I managed to get my first and second Bounty packs without signing up to it, one off the midwife on booking appt and they just had a big box of the second in the hospital so I just picked it up without signing up. So if you can do that, go for it for the minor freebies (although one if mine was Tenalady pads which tbh was just a depressing freebie!) but I wouldn't give them my email address.

Why is there so much hatred for he Bounty packs on MN?

DD is 14 and I got given one at the hospital when she was born. All the little travel size stuff was really useful. I just threw away the advertising blurb.

bunbaker it isn't so much the packs themselves (although they are pretty shit), it's the aggressive techniques the reps use on hospital wards. A quick search of previous threads regarding Bounty should show you why.

I won't support them, and am fully behind the MN campaign to sort them out!

I got one at my booking in I think. It was pointless, loads of vouchers for big brands I didn't want and one measly sachet of decaf coffee. I refused to keep my notes in it too; I'm not free advertising thanks.

When I was in hospital after birth, the Bounty woman made a point of ignoring me because I was on postnatal without a baby (he was in nicu). I've rarely felt so fuck you in my life.

And, just getting in before "well I had no problems with them, they were lovely and didn't try to sell me ANYTHING so I think you're overreacting" that usually comes up, that's wonderful. Some mums are lucky. However some mums, with very ill babies in SCBU for example, really don't want a pushy woman bursting in on them at all times demanding to know where the baby is. Lying that the photos they take are for "security reasons". Pretending to be hospital staff.

The samples size stuff is handy for change bags etc. Just give them a false email address and phone number. Bin the blurb.

But between being pg with ds (nearly 6) and dd (nearly 3) the quality of freebies declined massively.

But they are not wonderful and I totally agree with every new mother's right to tell them to get lost if they want to.

I refused mine at my booking in appointment this time as my last pregnancy ended in mc and seeing the bloody bounty pack lying around the house was a kick in the teeth, especially having read all the stuff in it about happy 12 week scans with no mention made of the fact there can be bad news too. I did know from other sources but was really angry at the biased info in the pack. Didn't find any of the freebies or vouchers that exciting either.

I was surprised that the midwife then had to rifle through it to remove all the useful NHS info I did need and transfer it to my blue folder, surely they should be kept separate to begin with.

I got mine this week, I didn't get the bibs but did get a newborn towel (with a hood for head), otherwise the same. Bounty was a right of passage of me, after a zillion years trying to conceive and watching friends who started TTC after me now go on to have their third children I felt left on the shelf, this world of ours is very good at excluding couples who are childless and we were very much left behind. I had no idea what was in a bounty pack, but I had to endure women's excitement of talking about all the little freebies, I couldn't muster the energy to ask what was in one (it would mean getting in to baby conversations), but I really wanted to know.

I have finally joined the club!

I have just collected my Emma's diary mum to be pack from boots. And tbh there was 3 bits of literature. One for boots baby club, one for studio catalog, one for a online shopping place.

I did however get a full size pack of johnsons baby wipes, johnsons nappy cream, top to toe wash, and shampoo :)

Can't really remember the bounty packs from ds1, and never has to meet a bounty rep either

Picked up a pack at my scan yesterday and have filtered through it. Got a decaf teabag and pregnacare tablets. Most of it went into the recycling bin. The magazine covered stuff I've read everywhere else (you and your baby week by week) but was more patronising than the NHS book I got. The Change4Life booklet was worse and some of the advice went against what I read in the NHS book and what midwife had said re cycling.

Think I will fill out a form and pick up a mum-to-be pack as don't mind giving my email as it filters spam and I'll just put my old phone number. And I'll join the Boots club as we're already with advantage card.

I told my DH about what I'd heard of the Bounty people taking photos in the ward and he was also surprised and thought it must be something you sign up for beforehand. I will certainly be refusing a stranger taking a photo of my baby!

I got the folder from the midwife but I meant the ones you go and collect from asda boots or Kiddicare. I didn't know if it was worth filling in the form. Had no idea about the pushy sales people! And why on earth do they take pics of the babies?!

They try and sell you the photos afterwards. Every hospital gets £5.50 from each newborn baby.

I can't remember anything useful from my pack 2 years ago so said no this time. The midwife was like, ooh, and then said, it's a bit bad isn't it really, not sure why we give them out. Yup.

My free one included a sample of Tena Lady. No information whatsoever about pelvic floor exercises anywhere in the pack, but a brand name for you to buy should you (rather inevitably) start pissing yourself at some point during the pre/postnatal period.

It made me quite angry. Show and tell women how to prevent incontinence, give them access to proper physio, but don't, from the word go, provide young women with a nappy without even signalling proper alternatives.
