Wobbly after cake?

Hello,

I'm just wondering if this is something I should be worried about. Over the last week I have a few episodes of blurry, weird vison. It feels a little like I'm going to pass out but does pass. In addition, I am always thirsty (but it's been hot), wee a lot (but don't we all), I'm exhausted (again at 28 weeks isn't this normal) and have thrush. According to the nhs site this can all be a sign of gestational diabetes???

However, I have a normal bmi (in fact I'm losing weight), no family history of diabetes and don't come from one of the at risk racial groups. As a result the midwife (who I spoke to this morning) said they wouldn't test my blood.

My diet is pretty good, but I have been eating and drinking more sugur recently, as I had thought it would help me have the energy to look after my one year old. However, it seems to be having the opposite effect. As a result I have cut back now and I think I do feel better, but I'm exhausted.

I can't decide if I'm being a drama queen or if I should call the Gp?

Lucy

I have episodes of blurry vision when anaemic, especially if I stand up too quickly. It may not be at, but I would certainly see your GP aboit it.

I called midwife this morning and she was not at all interested. She said it does not come on so quickly (over a week) and I would not be tested unless I fell into an at risk group? My husband suggested an at home kit but we don't really know much about it. What do you think?

Sorry, just re read and saw that the midwife said that she wouldnt test.

Get thee to GP.

Just because you don't have the risk factors, doesn't mean that you can't have it.

If it's not GD, then you could be a bit run down (who isn't in PG with a one year old!) and might benifit from some iron or something .

Try not to worry, the GP will understand your concerns

Could well be anemic as I was last pregnancy. Will have a steak for dinner.

Thanks all

See the GP. Risk factors for GD are just that - risk factors, you don't have to have risk factors to have GD! For the sake of a simple cheap blood test your midwife is being a bit remiss in being so quick to dismiss it. You have symptoms of GD so risk factors or not you should be tested. I'm pretty sure your GP will do this without any resistance.

I have GD and could have written your post! Request a glucose tolerance test. I'm sure they can't really say no, given your symptoms. I'm underweight too, put no weight on at all and do t fall into any of the usual at risk groups apart from dad being type 2. Good luck. Hope you get sorted

At my clinic they test everyone for the reasons PP have said for anemia and GD.

FX you are just a bit run down but that does sound like you need to see your GP.

Loverly Gp was much more helpful. Am booked in for a test tommorrow. Have bought some spatone as well as it can't do any harm being prepared. Just made my son some lunch and had some myself and now I'm shattered. Luckily my husband is here this afternoon. Thanks all for your posts.
