Pregnant after miscarriage

Just done a pregnancy test which confirms I'm pregnant, following on from a silent miscarriage 4 months ago. I reckon I'm about 4 and a half weeks pregnant. I already have one child, now aged 5 and a half, with a different father. I'm not feeling much in the way of symptoms which is dramatically different from how I felt when pregnant with my first child, and more like how I felt earlier this year.

Also not helped by the fact that a close friend is also pregnant with the same due date and is being very sick and complaining about how sore her boobs are.

On the plus side I am feeling a bit tearful - just not sure if I can put that down to hormones or worry!

Any stories of reassurance about different symptoms in different pregnancies would be much appreciated. I'm worrying my age is against me - I'm 33 (34 in October.)

Most women won't have symptoms yet at 4 1/2 weeks! :)

Umm why would your age be against you? In many parts of the UK that's the average age (in some lower) for childbirth! You know fertility lowers/miscarriage risk rises in the late 30s - as in 38+?

Unfortunately pregnancy after miscarriage, you will always feel worried and tearful, it's just part of the process (which no one warns you about - like getting pregnant will make it all better)!

Some things which do make it more reassuring are the miscarriage association which has a forum on their website for pregnancy after loss and a great helpline which is very comforting.
Also here on MN this thread is for women in our position, it is very supportive: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2140166-Shiny-and-new-posifrickintivity-thread-for-pregnancy-after-miscarriage If you read the whole thing you will find a list of babies born to people who used the thread which is an enormous comfort.

After a miscarriage, you aren't more likely to have another loss. Women who have several losses in a row before the age of 42 are extremely rare (less than 1%) so this pregnancy has the exact same chance as anyone else in their early 30s! :)

Thanks Squizita! I know I need to get a grip and get on with it. Sometimes easier said than done though :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant after a MC at 12 weeks in February.
I didn't start feeling sick till at least 6 weeks so it's definitely nothing to worry about yet.
You can drive yourself crazy either symptom spotting...The only thing that really reassured me and helped me get through the first 12 weeks was booking an early scan at 8 weeks. Maybe something worth thinking about?

GailLondon - yes, definitely doing one of those. Just knowing that there really is something going on this time would be nice :) Especially since I am suffering hay fever without antihistamines. Last time I had tonsillitis and couldn't take any good painkiller for it, and felt very cheated when it all came to naught a month or no later.

MrsGiraffe12 - I am going to take a look at the positivity thread now. Could do with a bit of hand holding as not wanting to tell anyone about my current "medical condition" (other than DH!)

Thank you all.

I had 2 early Mc's last year (around the 5/6 week mark). Got BFP in March/April and had very little symptoms for the first few weeks other than some burping - oh how I wish it had stayed like that.

I'm now almost 22 weeks and I have nausea daily although no longer being sick. My boobs have settled down but I now have hack pain, hip pain, can't sleep etc.

Don't take lack of symptoms as a bad thing - hopefully in a few weeks they will all come rushing through and you'll be wishing you'd never worried about it! xxx

I am pregnant (11 + 3) following a mc at 9 / 10 weeks. With both this and mc I have had barely any symptoms. I've had two private scans so far+ '12 week' this Thursday. The two scans I've had were good emotionally but the fear stays. These pregnancies are with a new partner (no sickness etc) and totally different to those with dd1 + dd2 . I tell myself it's because he's nicer to me at a genetic level (madness i know). But. It's probably because I am older and nhs seem to suggest symptoms CAN be reduced at my age.

Sea Symptoms don't vary with age: indeed if you go to another DR they might warn you they get worse with age! They're like a mild allergy to the hormones, not the hormones themselves: so can even vary pregnancy to pregnancy. Unfortunately whereas most women would be really happy to have no sickness... it's emotionally tough after MC not feeling anything! We're the only women who wish our pregnancies were WORSE! Grin
