Feeling very wobbly!

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, so sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place.

I found out yesterday that after years of trying, I am finally pregnant! I am in complete shock, because I had pretty much given up hope of it ever happening naturally & was on a waiting list for treatment.

I am 36 & this will be our first baby. I am only very early on-about 11 days or so, which seems to be classed as 3/4 weeks, going by my last period date.

I suspected I was pregnant as I have had a really upset stomach & been feeling queasy, yet at the same time, my eyes & skin seemed to be glowing. I have also been (even) more emotional than usual!

The problem is that I am terrified. I want this baby so much, and am so scared that something might go wrong. I feel like I don't dare move in case I jiggle it. I am scared my weight will be an issue (I am size 16-ish), and am also terrified that my age puts me at risk (36).

I know that I am probably just being paranoid, but would really appreciate some reassurance from those of you who have been through this. Blush Thanks

Relax and enjoy. The first 12 weeks are hard as anxiety does take over but do try to chill. And mega congratulations!! GrinGrin

Congratulations! You'll be fine. The tiny little bean is deep inside your pelvis and very well protected. Make sure you take folic acid and try and relax. But bear in mind that if anything were to go wrong at this early stage, it would not be your fault, just one of those things.

Your age and weight may flag you up as high risk (the midwives BMI as a guide), but this tends to mean you get more scans and more attention, so not necessarily a bad thing, and I speak as a 40 year old first timer with an utterly horrendous BMI.

You might join the ante-natal club thread for February 2015, mine helped to keep me sane in the early weeks and it was very reassuring to know that I wasn't alone in freaking out!

Size 14 and 40, first baby 26 weeks. I panicked throughout the first 12 weeks about various things, now I'm panicking about other things.. no doubt parenthood is about panicking about children!

Very little you do (within reason, obviously), can hurt it right now. Even if something goes wrong, the chances of it being your fault are pretty much nil. By 17 weeks I was riding pillion on a motorbike again and had chilled out, you'll probably be the same.

Congratulations.

Congratulations, that is fantastic news! Your midwife should put your mind at ease when you go in for your booking appt and if they think there is any higher risk they will take extra special care of you.

I am 34 and was size 14/16 when I got pregnant and as I'd had a previous miscarriage I was incredibly nervous, just like you. But I'm now 35 weeks and baby is growing like a trooper (a little too much but that's a different story!)

Good luck with everything Thanks
