Bit of a back story, I have pcos was ttc for 18 months and finally got my bfp Monday. I have 3 party invites in the next few weeks and im pretty sure "I am on antibiotics" is code for I am pregnant! I would ideally like to keep it from family till my early scan which is the 17th this month! So what are your best none drinking excuses?!

greedygal Fri 06-Jun-14 21:15:39

Congratulations wood! Wonderful news for you after such a long time TTC. I said i was off drinking for a while, trying to be healthy. Rubbish excuse and nobody bought it as they know me too well. Ha!

ViviPru Fri 06-Jun-14 21:17:00

Don't know how believable this might be in your circumstances but I said I was back on the MyFitnessPal wagon and do you have any idea how many calories there are in a glass of wine?! Most people have bought it as I've been careful with my diet for a while....

Shatteredmamma1 Fri 06-Jun-14 21:18:27

Could you be the driver? Then you couldn't possibly drink? Congrats btw!!!!

SouthDerbyshireMamma Fri 06-Jun-14 21:18:54

You can't drink 'cos you're the designated driver is a good one

I used the excuse that I'd pulled a muscle in my back and was on Cocodamol for the pain.

It worked as very early on I kept having back spasms.

Or just say you're incredibly hungover and couldn't face another drink!!! Also works especially well if you feel a bit nauseous.

woodwaj Fri 06-Jun-14 21:30:03

I like the hung over one! I might give that a go, the first party which is a week today is walking distance from mine so I don't think ill get away with designated driver!

Thanks for all the congrat! :D

Weight watchers is what I said, it worked ok.

Waswondering Fri 06-Jun-14 21:33:21

Or just accept a proffered drink. Wave it about, lift it to your lips. No one will notice you don't actually drink it!

woodwaj Fri 06-Jun-14 21:37:36

I have been going on about slimming world! I think I could fake a couple of vodka and cokes I might even lie and say i am doing overtime on Saturday! Its not common but not unheard of

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg Fri 06-Jun-14 21:57:38

Yes, antibiotics is a bad one!

- Hangover is quite good.

- Driving, where it is plausible

- Dieting

- Fake drinking. If you are not super worried about very small amounts of alcohol, take first drink and take a very obvious big sip or two. After that people stop watching and you can ditch it. And buy vodka and coke for the rest of the night. Depending on the bar, non-alcoholic beer in a glass can be a good option.

Moonshine1 Fri 06-Jun-14 22:08:42

Pretend that there is vodka in your coke if anyone asks or drink non-alcoholic beer or kopparberg and pour it into a glass. Once everyone else starts getting tipsy they won't realise that you're not too!

woodwaj Fri 06-Jun-14 22:10:01

One friend knows and obviously my dp (who is trying to get out of going) I would like more back up as possible so if I get bought any alcohol I can give it them! I don't really mind a little but would obviously rather not!

Heatherbell1978 Fri 06-Jun-14 22:24:50

I did 'pretend' drinking. A couple of close friends knew so they'd happily go to the bar and get a 'gin and tonic' or something. We had a few house parties around that time too and the 0% beer was great for them. I just strategically ripped the sticker a bit where it said 0% and no one really noticed!

woodwaj Fri 06-Jun-14 22:38:06

All good ideas!!

I could go with the good old squits. No one ever asks for details on that!!

I went to a wedding the week after finding out. I was a bridesmaid and therefore expected to drink even in the morning. It was almost too easy to get away with not drinking. I thought everyone would notice immediately but nobody noticed at all, nobody questioned anything when I loudly sent DH to the bar for a 'gin' and tonic and as the shots started being passed around, nobody caught on as I took photos of everyone drinking theirs.

Hello everyone

I just found out tonight that I'm pregnant - very early days will be 3 weeks on Sunday. I'm in absolute shock after two false negatives last weekend and even more shocked because with my last boyfriend we struggled to get pregnant for 7 years and were about to start IVF when we separated. I just wanted to ask whether anyone had cramps - similar to period cramps - in their early pregnancy? Because this is nothing short of a miracle I'm so worried that I might loose it so now I'm concerned that the pains mean something underlying...
Also I don't know if anyone else has any experience with this but I have a nipple piercing, when do I take it out? Straight away?

Thanks smile

avarose1986 Sat 07-Jun-14 00:36:18

Sorry thought I was posting a new thread. So sorry! Congrats x

Marnierose Sat 07-Jun-14 06:41:58

I agree in reality no one seems to notice or care. I kept my pregnancy a secret until after my 20 week scan very easily! It can be done.

Lula2515 Sat 07-Jun-14 07:29:57

I was very fortunate with my timings as I "gave alcohol up for lent". It was a bit trickier with DP's family who own a pub but I just sort of implied that I'd had a really heavy one the night before. DP joined in by saying "oh go on, hair of the dog" and I just responded by looking ill (easy with morning sickness). Congratulations!

Some brill ideas! Bumpngrind I love the designated photographer!! Ill have my camera at the ready!!

Avarose congrats! The only real sign I have had is AF type cramps so far! Id suggest taking your piercing out as soon as your boobs start to hurt which shouldn't be too far away!

Just d

hubbahubster Sat 07-Jun-14 10:38:17

Bloody phone!

Just don't say anything and nurse one drink all night. I did a shed load of Christmas parties this way and honestly, drunk people just don't notice. And I'm usually a BIG drinker. I even managed a girlie night in with bottles of wine and my best mate. You think she'd notice since it was one-on-one but no. I just sipped one glass of red the whole night.

ViviPru Sat 07-Jun-14 10:40:43

I agree most people don't notice. At our last social gathering DH was surreptitiously topping my glass up with elderflower and everyone assumed it was just white wine. One of my closest friends did clock I was drinking 1% cider but she didn't make a fuss, wither she thought nothing much of it or was just being discreet.
