Pregnancy

So sick!

I had hyperemisis with my last 2 pregnancies, ending at 20 weeks with dd1 and at 27 weeks with dd2, which both started at about 4-5 weeks.

I thought I was doing ok this time, I'll be 10 weeks on Monday and I didn't even have any nausea until about 7-8 weeks. It's just been a little bit if nausea, not very nice, but manageable.

Today however, I have just felt like utter crap,I've not kept down a single thing I've eaten or drank. I thought I'd gotten away with it this time round. Ugh! Please tell me it gets better Hmm

Just coming on to say hello! You have been there more often (and worse) than me, so you do know it gets better! Must be horrible to think you've dodged the bullet though and then it comes and whacks you.

Have you found the pregnancy sickness support website? They have some really good research summaries there, and I think from memory there was some suggestion that a later start might mean earlier relief, so maybe there will be some good signs there to hang on to.

Otherwise the hyperemesis thread here is really good too, and there is always the GP if you need pills? I didn't find the first thing I was prescribed super effective, but it still made me feel a bit less panicky that there was something there if I needed, and that if need be I could go back to the GP and they would take me seriously and try to help.

When every MW would write "feeling well" or "appears well" in my notes when I was actually feeling like death it was just really nice to have somebody take account of my feelings (obviously I understand why the MW wrote that, and in many ways it makes sense, but it made me feel quite alone in dealing with it). For me seeing the GP was really helpful in just feeling a bit more in control and looked out for.

Hang on in there. A week at a time!

LT x

Thank you for your reply

I know it does get better, it's just so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when your in the middle of it

Didn't have any medication the last times, mainly because the midwives fobbed me off all the time with "everyone feels a little bit ill at some point in pregnancy, they just get on with it"

I've not really found any supportive sites, every time I google it comes up with, eat a few crackers before you get up in the morning etc...if only it were that easy Hmm

Definitely Google pregnancy sickness support. It has lots of research, details on drugs and risks (including some they have used for years in the US and Netherlands), and a quite active forum. Post back if you can't find it and I'll send a link!

Do try your GP too. Some fob you off but some are really supportive.

I certainly hope it's a bug, was sick again this morning, and felt ill all day, but not actually been sick again.
I remember what it was like last time, and how desperate I was by the end of it. Don't want to go thorough all that again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

There's loads of things going round at the minute, my midwive said you catch everything going in pregnancy with your antibodies keeping the baby protected.

I hope it is just a bug for you and if not that it doesn't last too long.

Hopefully it is as you said you started earlier with it, with your first two.
