It can be normal, but unfortunately it isn't always. Can you ring a doctor or midwife? Also, you may be able to google and find an early pregnancy unit that you can self refer to.

In the meantime, try to take it easy and watch rubbish telly or read an easy book.
Try not to google apart from factual stuff like where your EPU is.

I've had brown discharge/spotting throughout my pregnancy, starting at 7 weeks.

My advice would be...

Today/Tonight - feet up and try not to worry, knowing this happens to A LOT of people.

First thing tomorrow - call your GP. I managed to speak to mine on the phone and she immediately wrote me a referral to the EPU (early pregnancy unit) which I could pick up that day. I didn't have to ask for this; I was actually ok with just wanting some reassurance from her but she was insistent that I go and I'm glad she was.

Then... get down to the EPU with your referral letter and have a scan. Depending on how early you are, you may not be able to see much but if you're 7 weeks you should be able to see a heart beat, I think, if all's ok.

Good luck!

ps. No cause found for mine, but they think it was old implantation blood coming away. Given I've had it ever since then (now 22 weeks!) this seems unlikely to me, but as no one has ever been worried about it, I try not to be.

I had pink spotting abd a bit of red between 6 and 7 weeks and baby had a heart beat at 6 + 4 so all was well and no cause was found. I am now nervously awaiting my 12 week scan on Thursday.

Other people on my antenatal thread weren't so lucky so it can go either way.

I'll cross my fingers for you. No heartbeat can be seen before 6 weeks but it may not be seen until 8 weeks. If they scan you at 5 weeks they may be able to see a sac, a yolk sac and fetal pole which would be reassuring. If it's too early to scan they can test your blood hcg levels over a few days to see if they rise appropriately, if they do then you are unlikely to be miscarrying now.

I have had bleeding in pregnancy and it has gone both ways. This pregnancy I had 2 bleeds, one bright red and am 19+4 so far so good. However I have had losses start like that.

I agree with pp who said don't Google! Ring your Dr and rest.

Fingers crossed for you it is just a bleed, nothing more. Many women have them to the extent they get their dates wrong as they mistake them for periods, and their baby is fine.

Hello, i have had bleeding, bright red and losing brown blood, i panicked aswell and googled which was the worst thing as i could do as i thought i was miscarrying! Went and had an early scan and all was fine, the somographer said she could see a bleed around the sack but she said this can be common i just need to take it easy, and we saw a heart beat. So please try not to panic, think positive and hope everything goes well for you ??

samanth112 if it's any consolation I had bright red spotting followed a few days later by brown spotting in week 5. My GP referred my to the early pregnancy unit and I had a 7 week scan, which showed a little jellybean with a really strong heartbeat.

Was so relieved to see it as it's my first pg. Having my dating scan this Saturday and can't wait to see how things have progressed

Call your GP and good luck

I've had spotting at 7 and at 11 weeks and went to EPU both times to get checked out and baby ok. No explanation but suggested that many women will have bleeds at the time their period would be. Always go and get checked out though
