Nosebleeds in pregnancy

The last week my nosebleeds have started to become a lot more frequent, tmi but I just blew my nose and a huge clot came out, it was massive.

I called the midwives about them in early pg, and was told it was normal, but when should I start to worry about the frequency or size?

I've had at least 2 today and more yesterday, I'm fed up of tasting blood!

Sorry to hear it Potato. I can certainly empathise.

I can't give you medical advice but I can tell you my experience. I'm 34 weeks now and have had them on and off throughout. I can have them as you describe, all day and clotty and horrible, for a day or two, then nothing at all for over a week, often more. Having had the advice not to worry about it (it is just 40% more blood circulating, making the vessels more prone to popping, and 30% of pregnant women get them), I pretty much just have a moan and don't let it concern me.

they're awful aren't they! I ended up suffering up to 5 a day for 20-45 minutes at a time. really heavy and clots too. my midwife just kept saying they were normal but I was so drained from them and couldn't do anything I was having that many that eventually I took myself off to a&e.
the initial booking in there wasn't great as the nurse just made me feel stupid saying well its stopped now why are you here!! Erm because I'm heavily pregnant and worried about my baby?! But the doctor I saw was great and I had my nose cauterized there and then. They numb your nose so it doesn't hurt, its just uncomfortable. I've only had two or three really tiny bleeds since then so it's worth it!!

I had this is my first pregnancy ! So gross.

I have nothing useful to say really but I think it goes away in the third trimester.

So glad to read this - I don't exactly get nosebleeds, but I've been blowing big lumps of snotty blood (sorry!) out of my nose for months now (32+5) and I'm glad I'm not the only one!

elasti that's exactly what I've been having!

pea thankfully they're not quite at that stage but glad you got yours sorted!

Ithought I'm well and truly in the third trimester so no such luck I'm afraid!

mummy hope yours clear up soon, I think mine are sinus-ey too.

darkside I know what you mean about that too, some of them are huge!

ps, hope I've namechecked everyone correctly, quite proud that I managed it off the top of my head so excuse any mistakes!
