Hi, I am driving myself crazy with this so must ask for some advice!

Been to the gp today who dipped my urine and said it is negative for pregnancy! Basically she dipped it in my sample for approx 10 seconds then looked at it for about 45 secs before throwing it away.

I asked for the blood test which I had and now just waiting on the result coming back later on today.

I said to the gp that I thought it took about 3mins for the test to show but she said if positive should come up instantly.

Bear in mind from my lmp I would be about 4wks today (I know it's still early) and have done three positive home pregnancy tests myself.

Only went to the docs to have it confirmed and for reassurance that I have no symptoms. Now feel totally stressed waiting to find out!

This proper made me angry. Today must have been so stressful for you. Sending you for bloods when she could have just not been such an impatient Bint!

Brilliant news!!grin

I've never had a GP retest. Usually they just take your word for it.

hubbahubster Mon 14-Apr-14 16:54:03

I would still say something to the practice. This GP shouldn't be causing undue stress to people through bad practice and they should get some feedback…

Hi ithoughtofit

Lol! Gp needs to learn to wait and read the results longer maybe!

It has caused me so much unecessary stress today, was at the doctors for another reason but mentioned it to her and she dipped my urine to confirm. Or 'unconfirm' I should say!

Not sure what to do about it to be honest, it wasn't a gp I have seen before so might be new to the practice.

I am relieved though but appreciate it is still early days

Can you leave a message for the gp saying 'the test came back positive you total minge'? Like leave the message with the

cooperbug Mon 14-Apr-14 16:19:09

Phew it is back and the result is positive! Now I need to calm myself down and stop all this worrying!

The beta hcg level is 267 which I have looked up and seems ok at this stage

Thanks for all of your replies ladies!

OP, I am a bit out of date, but 18 years ago when I presented myself at the doctors because I thought I was pregnant, he asked me if I had done a home test and when I said I had, he said that a home test was sufficient as you couldn't get a false positive. So if you had a positive home test then that was that - you were pregnant.

As others have said, you are very early to have symptoms yet.

I strongly suspect that your mind will be put at ease tonight - hope the time is going quickly for you.

MewlingQuim Mon 14-Apr-14 15:43:52

I'm not aware of any test that can give a result in 45 seconds hmm

Most GPs don't do pregnancy tests anyway.

Go and buy another home test and repeat it yourself then tell us the result

ithoughtofitfirst Mon 14-Apr-14 15:37:49

Wtf?? I would have gone in the bin to get it.

My test looked negative after 45secs.

Convo with dh went like this..

"Oh Im not pregnant"

"Oh no wait yes I am"

LIG1979 Mon 14-Apr-14 15:06:12

It could be a number of things:
1) Too dilute urine - quite likely early on when there is less hcg in the system.
2) Less sensitive test at the doctors compared to at home. (The internet cheapies and first response tend to be 10mui versus the normal 20mui so it will take longer i.e. longer after ovulation to get a positive on the 20 ones.)
3) A chemical pregnancy - you get pregnant and then it never implants properly and then the pregnancy test goes negative and you get af as if you were never pregnant. They do happen a lot and when I got one I got bfp's for a couple of days and then it went negative and my af was just a couple of days later and seemed like a normal AF. If I hadn't tested I wouldn't have known.

Fingers crossed it is 1/2!! Also, no symptoms this early is quite normal and doesn't mean much as some people get lots of symptoms and others very few.

I agree with eurochick. My GP didn't test me either, as I had done several home tests.

eurochick Mon 14-Apr-14 14:57:34

Why did the GP test? If you've had 3 positives on home tests, you are pregnant. I am sure the blood test will confirm that.

dietcoketime69 Mon 14-Apr-14 14:55:49

Cooper I'm sure all will be fine, like everyone says I bet it's just a less sensitive test than those you've used! Keep us updated smile

cooperbug Mon 14-Apr-14 14:28:34

Thanks for your replies,

Supergreen wish I hadn't bothered going it but at least I have got the blood test just hoping it is positive!

Bonnella20 Mon 14-Apr-14 14:28:01

Very rare that a test will give you a false positive 3 times so is be hopeful. Please let us know the result of blood test smile fingers x

supergreenuk Mon 14-Apr-14 14:25:48

Same happened to me. Home tests are better. I was pregnant. Didn't bother with the drs trip the second time around.

cooperbug Mon 14-Apr-14 14:19:44

I got my first positive result with superdrug test 10dpo then another positive at 12dpo then 14dpo

cooperbug Mon 14-Apr-14 14:18:07

It was second morning urine, yes I thought you had to wait about 3 mins for the result and that's what I have been waiting doing the ones at home.

At least I will know one way or the other by tonight by the blood test.
