Oh crap - my section is today and I can't sleep

It's almost 4am, I've had an hours sleep and I can't stop shaking, I am so nervous.

I keep having flashbacks to ds section, which was the worst thing I have ever been through. Getting the epidural in almost finished me off, it was like lightening bolts going up and down my legs, and then I felt them cut me.

I just want to run away, I'm not sure I can do this again.

Try to relax, can you go and make a hot choc/hot water bottle.

It will all be fine this time tomorrow, It must be awful to have gone through that last time, just let them know how you feel,

I hope you get on o.k, Thanks xx

Was your last section an emergency or planned?

Report
Loopylouu · 26/03/2014 04:04

It was planned but I went into labour at 37 weeks.

Or at least I think I did - no one actually checked me??

I was having regular contraction feelings, they were 5 mins apart but they weren't too painful. Got to the hospital and they stopped. Then a shitty consultant walked in and said "does she want this section or not, we're busy", so they just did it.

I was only 22 (ds is now nearly 12) and I was so scared and had no support. I don't know why I wasn't checked, ds was very ill with breathing problems afterwards.

Poor thing, I'm not suprised you're scared.
I'm assuming this had all been noted and spoken about?

It just can't happen like that again...it won't xx

My SIL just had a section and after giving birth to a 101b 4 baby (she is 5 ft1!) that ripped her lady bits to shreds?
She found this a much more suitable alternative!

I'm due in few weeks and really scared about the pain of labour.
(Even though this is my 4th Confused)

Whichever way the baby's come out, it's pretty scary. Fear is normal.

But after such an awful experience you have the right to feel more anxious than most.

I hope you have someone to hold your hand this time and support you.
I'm sure everything will go smoothly and you won't feel much at all.

You'll soon be holding your beautiful baby...deep breaths lovely XxxThanks

No, nothing was ever noted or spoken about. I tried but the midwives were awful, said I was just trying to blame others for ds being ill, then a HV got involved and started insisting I had PND but was in denial. It was awful, I was basically bullied by so called health professionals into not complaining. so I dropped it. Like I said, I was young, ds dad was crap.

I am just so scared about today.

Ohh no loopy that sounds awful- have you seen writers thread? She had elcs earlier this week perhaps that would help let me find the link...

When you go into hospital tell the midwife about last time and explain up your scared. Hopefully she will understand. Have you got a dh/dp who could support you this time?

Report
Loopylouu · 26/03/2014 06:03

Yes dh will be with me.

I have a lovely consultant who has booked me in herself to do the op, but I guess it's luck of the draw if she actually does it, emergencies etc. I've got all my hopes pinned on her doing it.

Just wanted to wish you well - I've been fortunate in that both my 'semi-elective emergency c-sections' were actually good experiences on the whole, & it sounds like your first experience was unusually awful. Do tell them how you're feeling & why, you should be able to speak to the anaesthetist beforehand for reassurance. Will be thinking of you - hold on to the positive that you get to meet your baby later! Smile Thanks

A little hand holding here. Don't be fobbed off today - it's your body and they can't do anything without your permission. You are allowed to feel scared and after the last experience, I am not surprised! I hope you get better support from your partner this time and the booking you want, with the consultant.

Let the anaesthetist know about your previous spinal and your concerns. They are excellent at reassuring and will do their best to prevent a repeat episode.
Happy Birthday baby Loupylouu!!!

Good luck!! Things have changed so much in the past 12 years and hospitals now can really do without the bad publicity so I'm sure there won't be any more bullying shenanigans. Wishing you a relaxed and joyful experience that undoes all the bad memories. xxxx

Thank you.

I'm all gowned up now and waiting. My nice consultant is free, the reckon about 11.

Not cried yet. But will speak to ds in a bit and that will probably set me off.

Good luck for today.

I had a 10 year gap between my babies due to a traumatic first birth. My second - a planned c section at my own request - was 100 times better. Make sure you tell those looking after you if you feel sick or need extra pain relief, don't be afraid to speak up.

In a few hours time you'll have a gorgeous squishy newborn to hold.

Lots of hugs x

I had a bad emcs and an elective with DD because of birth trauma from the first.

The experiences could not have been different.

I had issues with my blood pressure when lying down and was scared of the spinal block but they took their time and talked me through it.

My abiding memories of sitting in the recovery room first time round were stunned silent shock and weeks of crying afterwards.

Second time around I sat in the recovery room holding DD and grinning and saying how amazing it had been.

In many ways the incredibly positive experience with DD has healed wounds in my mind that I didn't know I still had from the first emergency operation.

This is a great opportunity for you and you're about to meet your baby and start on the most amazing journey together. It sounds like they are working hard to make it a positive experience. If its anything like my second c section then you will love the experience and it will give you that lovely warm birth glow and happy experience so many people talk about but you missed first time around.

Just remember to get walking and upright as soon as you can after the operation! My recovery second time around was so much faster as a result!

I had my ELCS one year goo today! Honestly it was miles apart from DS1 and I really actually enjoyed it, the atmosphere was very relaxed, the anaesthetist was chatty and kept me calm. And DH was able to se DS2 arrive into the world. Don't let your nerves spoil what should be a magical time for you and your new baby.
Good luck Thanks

Sorry didn't make it clear but the bad emergency c section was my first with DS and the good one was my second elective with DD

Hi I've had 3CS, the last one 23 weeks ago and they have all been great and I recovered quickly. I'm sure this time you will be fine and in a few hours it will all be over :)

Oh Loopy try not to worry too much, it's bound to be much better today.
Might be helpful to try and stop thinking about what happened first time, it was a long time ago, things have massively improved in the meantime. Well mostly.
Best of luck my dear, looking forward for a lovely update ((hugs))

Good morning OP, hope you're managing to stay calm. I had an awful elcs with DS but although I had one with DD too it was completely different and was a lovely experience.

Congratulations! Thanks

Thinking of you, my second (elective) section was an amazing experience compared to my first (emergency), I really hope you find the same and have some lovely baby snuggles before lunchtime

Gd luck. I echo a lot on here bad emerg first section and elective second section. I was shaking with fear for the second but it went so much better. The staff were more in control and lots of them compared to the Skelton crew the first time. I surprised myself by talking up more and telling them I was very scared of the BP crash that happened last time and they were more prepared for it second time with drugs in quick. When I felt sick after I asked for drugs straight away and got them. Big hugs I hope when you come back you have a beautiful little one in your arms and a whole lot less scared.
