Bump has shrunk!

Hi all,

I have just returned from my 38week app at midwife. I am 38+3 and measured 35cm. On the growth chart all the other measurements have been almost spot on with the weeks give or take .5cm - at 36 weeks it measured 36.5cm.

Now I know measuring small isn't necessarily something to worry about - with my daughter I measured small all the way through and had growth scans amend she was born at 39+3 at 7lb8ozs. But this has made me a bit anxious as it is a change and it seems has gotten smaller!

The head was 4/5 palpable at 36 weeks but has popped back out and is free and easy now so it's not like it's engaged and therefore bump further down? Midwife arranging a scan so they'll be ringing today with an app but was just wondering if anyone had an experience like this before and can share?

Thanks
Xx

At 25+4 I measured 30cm. The next day at 25+5 I measured 26.5cm Hmm

Was it the same midwife/tape measure? Because you can get different readings if there are changes like that!

Captain cake - that's mad! Very disconcerting for you I'm sure But reassuring for me that I'm not the only one, thanks. I suppose they can curl up or stretch out etc...

Whispers - it was my regular midwife and the tape measure from my file - although last time it was a diff midwife so perhaps hers was out and it wasn't such a sudden drop in the line from the previous measurements iykwim?

Just want to know the scan date now.

I don't get the impression bump measuring is an exact science and I doubt you have a shrinking baby in there!

Hope you get a scan soon though, to set your mind at rest.

Thanks Something - that made me laugh.
My head tells me it'll be fine, but this is the first day of mat leave and I have given it too much thought (and google time) already. Going to meet friend for lunch soon to eat loads to counteract any shrinkage! Haha. Xx

I measured 34cm at 36 weeks (the same as at 34 weeks). I was a bit worried but the doctor was just like, meh, its fine. I have my 38 week appointment this afternoon so will be interested to see what I am measuring. They didnt mention a scan to me, but did say she was very engaged!?
Im sure it will be fine WeGotThere. Keep us updated. Ohh, are we due the same date? 4/4?

She's probably just moved so there is less sticking out this time!

So, far from being small my bouncing baby is measuring 40weeks according to sonographer and the estimated weight is almost 8lbs. Hilarious.

Glad to have had scan as confirms all is fine. I am feeling really well badfurday although this wasn't quite the lazy first day of mat leave I had planned! Was soo tired at the end of last week but now hoping for a few days to relax before newest addition arrives.

Hope your midwife app went/goes well this aft, thanks for the hand holding.
X

Excellent news! Bet that's a weight off your mind, relax now and take it easy.

Had my m/w appointment, and, measuring 36 weeks so are sending me for a growth scan! She wasn't overly worried, but said as she measured small last time, best to get it checked out. Im hoping for a similar outcome to you.

Am sure it will be fine Badfurday, at least it has grown since last time? These bumps like to keep us guessing.

Ah, only just got back to this! Glad the scan has been reassuring Smile
Different midwife can definitely have an impact. Also position of the baby as someone said, it's not an exact science, they are just looking for general trends Smile
