Brown patches on face :-(

Since getting pregnant I have got 3 or 4 significant small brown patches on my face - almost like skin damage from the sun. They are really ugly! Has anyone else got these, what are they and will they go away?!

Have a read of this

I have a couple of little patches - I think Kirsty Alsop gets it really badly as when she's upduffed on Location, Location she looks like she's had a bad spray tan, poor love. But it disappears!

They are melasma, hyper pigmentation. Have you been out in the sun over the last few weeks? You need to immediately start using high factor sunscreen religiously, every day, rain or shine. I used LA Roche Posay anthelios, 50+. That stopped it getting worse. It then faded and went a few months after DD was born, but it doesn't always. You should remain vigilant, even after pregnancy, you can remain prone.

I had these, they went after having my DD.

I have this at the moment, am nearly 37 wks. Had it last time too and it disappeared completely a month or so after I gave birth.

This gets rid of them, I found. Had some that didn't go away after pregnancy.

I got these brown patches on the outer corner of each eye whilst pregnant on my first. I still have them now & she is 4! Nothing at all worked for me to get rid of them, even prescription cream from the doctor.
This time round I'm using factor 50 religiously.

I've not been out in the sun at all, I've been pregnant all through the winter and I wear SPF each day so I cant really even put it down to the sun...

I had this. My midwife called it 'the butterfly mask'. It faded post pregnancy every time.

What of do you wear? I ask because if it's say, SPF 15 in your makeup, it won't give you enough / any protection

My skin likes to hyperpigment at any opportunity (trauma like vaccinations and hormones being the most common) and pregnancy is giving it the perfect excuse.

I have an interesting brown pattern across my forehead and new freckly areas coming through around the outside corners of my eyes.

It doesn't really bother me and hopefully the increased levels of melanin in the skin mean extra natural UV protection!

I doubt it's anything to do with the sun - mine are round my armpits and it's long-sleeve weather. I think it's just pregnancy.
