Bump impatience

1st pregnancy, 14 weeks, small frame, good 'core' stomach muscles, maaahhaassooove childbearing pelvis. Not showing, nooo bump yet of course!

I can feel something down there that ain't my guts or my bladder, and all my symptoms seem normal. I can't palpate myself to find my uterus very well but think this is my clutzy hands as DH found it when clueless ("What's that like a balloon with soft putty in? Is it your womb?") and MW also found it last doc visit.

But I've a history of MC and now symptoms are fading a bit (as is normal at 14 weeks) I'm really impatience for some 'proof' that bean hasn't just shrunk away to nothing.

With your 1st when did you start to show and if you needed to keep sane... how did you cope with the limbo?

Interested in responses to this too as there is a sort of celeb in the press with the same dates as me showing a full on bump I have no sign of one not quite as far on as you though Squizita.

Squitzita, I'm the same, nearly 14 weeks, the bump I have seems to be mainly bloating although it's a bit harder towards by bikini line. History of mc and therefore anxious! Next midwife appointment is just under 3'weeks away which feels like forever. How do I know it's all ok in there?
Sorry not much help other than to say I know how you feel! Smile

Pre-pregnancy I was relatively small framed - about 5ft 6 and BMI of 19.7.

I didn't really start growing a bump until I was about 17 weeks and I wasn't obviously pregnant until I was about 22/23 weeks.

I'm now 38 weeks and my bump is HUGE!!!!

It will come Smile

Thanks writer! :) I can feel something there that can't be sucked in or farted out and seems the right dimensions. It's just tucked in at the moment I guess! :)

I had a completly flat tummy when stood up/laying flat at 20 weeks with my first pregnancy. I was only 19 then though and had strong tummy muscles!!

Baby often lies very low in the pelvis, infact one of my scans the sonographer had to tip the bed so my feet were higher than my head to try and shift him up!!! It did work!!

Try not to worry about growth of baby Im sure all is well, if you need some reassurance then would seeing the MW help??

x

Squiz, i'm 26 weeks today and most people still wouldnt guess i'm pregnant (in certain clothes). A small bump emerged around 23 weeks. Like you, small frame and very tight core getting pregnant (honeymoon baby, so i was never thinner or in better shape obviously- had been doing 5 planks a day for 6 mths haha!)

i cant wait for a REAL bump- but as my MIL said last nite- you'll have it for a good few months so be thankful you got away with it for as long as you did!

I think it does depend on how you carry also- i'm carrying VERY low- so clothes are hanging empire line on me and the bump is literally unnoticeable, unless i wear tight clothes. I feel the bump isnt even big enough yet to 'show off' though. I was almost worried the baby was too small to be honest, but at the 22 week scan he was measuring 2 days ahead of age so all good on that front.

I'm 15+2 and no real bump yet - just looks like ive eaten a bit too much and only I am OH can see it. At MW appointment she said I have strony tummy muscles and may not show until 4.5/5 months so only a few weeks to wait... bet I think im huge soon lol!

I am currently 16 weeks, have a bit of a bump, HOWEVER, I was in absolutely no way toned before falling pregnant and I believe this means you end up showing sooner than normal. Hope your bump shows soon though xx

Thanks all. Very reassuring it varies so much and seems to have no link to bean's health. :)

I find I can feel centime most easily in the early morning as I wake up. If I am laying on my back it seems to be a hardish lump in the centre of my pelvis, more or less between my hip bones. If I amsleeping on my side it seems to fall to the downward side and I can sort of cup it, just above my hipbone.

I might try that in the morning then. I thought I'd get a bump early as I had a bmi of 26 before pg and have damaged stomach muscles.

I was the same - always had very flat tummy and tight stomach/core muscles - wide hips and 5'7" - didn't show properly until 20 weeks + pregnant ! By 14 weeks I was not showing at all ! Just a weird feeling in my abdomen that there was something balloony in there and in the evenings when I'd eaten loads I could see my stomach was not flat but nothing that anyone else could notice. Suddenly you will just pop out don't worry ! But it did feel like it took ages for me - even when I thought I had a bump people would be like huh you're tiny ! But now at 24 weeks it's unmistakable !! Just trust that everything is ok - I remember that feeling of being small and not a visible bump, symptoms going away around 13/14 weeks and feeling not pregnant ! Scary but normal so just enjoy still being able to wear certain clothes and your bump will come soon enough !

I was about 30 weeks with my first before I had a proper big pregnancy bump. I'm quite tall. With my second it was more like 16 weeks.

I am short and a size 8/10 and still didn't show at all till after 19 weeks with 1st pregnancy. Work didn't realise till 30 weeks. It varies so much!

Baby was born at 40+5, 6lb 14oz, the healthiest little scrapper you've ever seen.

2nd baby and 12 weeks now, no bump, in my normal clothes, nada. I do have decent stomach muscles.

Have you had a scan yet? I am still waiting mine and sometimes I do feel a bit anxious! Pretty sure bump size bears no relation to anything though!

Wee yes due to RM issues I've had (counts on fingers) 4!

All of them textbook. No phonecall after nuchal and bloods (they said they'd call if it was high risk, letter if not) so no cause for worry.

Just enjoy wearing your own clothes / not having to tell anyone if you don't want to while you can! :)

I found that having an anterior placenta made me look pregnant very early on- like 20weeks at 12 weeks. I wasn't flat beforehand, more 'womanly' but had great core muscles underneath. Bump size is so varied though, I wouldn't worry. Oh, and now that I'm 23 weeks, bump hasn't actually changed very much at all. All sizes, scans and measurements are fine though.

Report
IdaClair · 14/03/2014 13:31

I've not shown a proper bump that strangers can tell is there until past about 30 weeks, bit earlier with my second, bit later with my first.

My first pregnancy I didn't need to cope with limbo, but I felt her move at 12 weeks so that was reassuring, but I did MC so with my second I worried more - and didn't feel movement until past 20 weeks because of anterior placenta! I advise taking it one day at a time and trying not to prod the poor thing too much Grin I actually felt my third and fourth at 14-16 weeks (MC my third) but you should feel something soon and it will take some of the pressure off

Congratulations!

Ken I don't know if I can have another (the medication I'm on carries risks for me if I'm on it too many times over my life) although I hope I will. :)

I'm 5'4, size 8/10, pretty toned (loads of yoga) and funnily enough was thinking the same as you at 14 wks (this is also my first). I didn't have a flat stomach exactly at that point but there's no way anyone would have noticed I was pregnant. I'm now 18 wks and in the last week it seems to have popped! I was trying on a bikini the other day and my OH couldn't believe this bump had appeared out of nowhere! Im now hoping it doesn't get too massive, too soon!!
