Pregnancy

severe itching

Hello all,
A few weeks ago I started to itch all over. Blood tests for OC came back clear, but I'm asking to be re tested as the itching has now become severe, especially on my hands.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for some relief. My hands feel red raw this morning and cold water and moisturiser isn't soothing them.

TIA

I had the worst itching with dc1, bloods tested nothing liver etc related apparently one of those things! I took piriton which helped and allowed me to sleep! itching stopped as soon as baby was born.

I had quite severe itching during pregnancy with DD, of all the preg 'symptoms' that was the worst. I wanted to rip my skin off! Mine was worse on my back and my thighs. I was all clear too on the liver tests, but I have naturally dry skin and pregnancy made it 100 times worse. I found e45 oil in the bath helped with a drop of lavender oil, moisturiser every morning and evening and after washing / swimming. Other than that, go to doctors for medication

E45 anti itch cream is great. It has an ingredient that numbs the itch for a few hours which helps with the itch-scratch-itch cycle. you can buy it from the chemist but if you find it helps the doctor can prescribe it in 500ml tubs which cost £30 to buy.

Same here, liver function tests all clear, this is my third dc and I have had itching severely with all three. Vaseline sell an aloe Vera hydrating gel which I have found to work wonders. Only problem is it's expensive, £5 and I am going through a tub a week.

Oh Sammi I can completely sympathise, I have OC & the itching is awful!
Tbh, there hasn't been much that I've found to relieve itching on the palms of my hands or soles of my feet, but I find staying as cool/cold as possible helps a little. Use ice packs, moisturise as much as possible, drink plenty water & try an over the counter aqueous cream with menthol such as Dermacool.
Definitely ask to be re-tested as sometimes it takes a while to show on liver function tests.
I really hope it isn't OC & that you get some relief soon.
