Pregnancy

5 weeks & this pregnancy is already kicking my ass....:(

So it's 5+ weeks, which means that realistically I only conceived about 3+ weeks ago. But I am F@&%d!

It started with the worst head cold i've ever had, which flattened me for a week. Trying to shag throughout (cos we were still TTC or so we thought) was quite a challenge - I had actually whisper the alluring words "I'd better go on the bottom so I don't drip snot on you...."

During the same time my boobs were constantly agony. Oh yes, then the weeing started - every hour now, and getting up during the night too.

And I wasn't even positive yet! In fact I'd had a negative test!

Then last night I had a vomiting/diarrehea EXPLOSION. Went on all night, am very peaky today and can only take mouthfulls of the blandest food.

Also have horrendous lower back pain shooting through my pelvis. I wantt o go to sleep for a month. Did the washing up this morning and actually had to have a sit down afterwards!

How in the holy Hell can it be this bad when I only conceived 3 weeks ago??! My positive result was VERY positive so obvs my Hcg is quite high. But now I'm quite scared, tbh.

How can i cope with this? I have a horrendously hard job with 12 hr shifts but that isn't even my main worry. How am i going to cope with this level of horrendousness for the next two months? It seems like forever.

I honestly didn't expect my symptoms to be this strong (I kinda expected none as I'm such a sturdy mare who never gets sick), & I'm totally unprepared.

Have looooovely OH, but not being able to tell work/family is horrendous too. Had to tell my Dad today I'd had food poisoning as he was startled at my greyness/listlesness. How many times can I use that though?!

Oh I'm so overwhelmed. Tearful and wondering what the hell I've gotten myself into!

Hey Anna welcome to the club hehe! No only joking you sound like you have had a particularly rough time. I am 8 weeks with dc4 and I find that there are some days that are better than others but totally hear you on the tiredness I could cry some days ( and have:))!
Think they tiredness made worse by the fact ds is only 5 months note to self- listen to contraception talk the Hv gives you next time ;)

In all honesty I found pregnancy much harder than I expected. You need to take care of yourself. Any flexibility on the work? I had to tell my boss early and reduce my work for a bit.

But congratulations too! It's worth it

Oh my goodness I used that exact phrase about this pregnancy kicking my ass, I know how you feel, I was no where near like this with my first, I was bemused to be wearing maternity clothes at 8 weeks, I wasn't too surprised at my scan when they told me it was twins! Regardless of that you will start to feel better, try and drink lots, it sounds like you might have been unfortunate with a couple of bugs too, take care!

My ass can take no more kicking.

8 weeks. Miserable. Struggling. Every time i think about how many weeks i have left i start crying. And then i feel really ungrateful and start crying.

It doesn't get any better either.

Yep same here. Am 8 weeks with no 2 and had to beg DH to come home early because I couldn't cope today. In fairness things had been a bit easier the past week, today was the worst day by far. Had a big cry on DH's shoulder after DS was in bed.

With DS 2 years ago I was on holiday between weeks 7 and 10! This time with a toddler I am seriously struggling.

For first timers, it generally does get better by say 15 weeks. Energy comes back, nausea goes away. I found first trimester the hardest, second and third a doddle.

Ranked in order of awfulness:

(1) first few weeks with newborn
(2) labour and childbirth
(3) first trimester of pregnancy
(4) severe food poisoning/hangover
(5) having your fanjo waxed

Upside of today: DH and DS had for dinner the curry I lovingly made yesterday, but cannot stand the sight or smell of.

I had pad thai delivered with lovely chicken and prawns and lots of lime and peanuts and now feel MUCH better. And I am now going to bed Grin

I think it doesn't help that I'm OLD too. Am feeling every minute of my age.

Google tells me that a dirty cold can be one of the first signs, your immune system drops so your body doesn't reject baby and you pick up everything.

The whole "shooting out of both ends thing" is presumably normal too - don't think it was a bug as its over today. Frightened the life out of me though - picturing myself doing all that in a work loo!

Whilst it's not exactly heartening to know there's still loads ahead of me, at least I feel better for having a moan!!! Poor old OH is being terribly sweet and caveman-protector but I've been moaning enough to him and I can't moan to anyone else cos it's a f*ing secret! Grrrrr!!!

Ha ha Zara that made me giggle! I nearly choked on s and v crisps very good for chasing the nausea away by the way. I've got to argue the case for the last trimester with toddlers to look after being on the list I actually found the newborn bit a relief after that, although I did have really bad spd.

Regarding the fanjo wax for gods sake don't do what I did last time and attempt to veet everything off at 8 and a half months gone, ended up what the ooh doctors with chemical burns! Have never been in so much pain or so mortally embarrassed! ;)

pregnantagain I am in denial about what third trimester with a nearly 2 year old will be like ShockShockShock

Wonderful DPILs are coming to stay a month before I'm due for 2 months. I suspect I will be weeping with gratitude by then!

OUCH re the fanny wax. I had a Brazilian done 4 months after DS was born but not since because (1) can't justify the cost (2) look of horror on beautician's face when she saw the scar from my (v bad) second degree tear Wink

I have medication for my nausea but it makes me sleepy!!!Confused

I have been forced to tell friends and work already because I look so ill and drained Sad

alita when I feel like death warmed up, I tend to think it means that the human body is a disgusting thing.

Oh and if there is a god, he is a misogynistic bastard....

Zara- best way is to not think about it! If you get on well with your in laws I would lock them in your house! Seriously that will be an absolute godsend you lucky thing!:) I haven't even told my mum yet I feel like I'm fifteen again!

Sorry Anna didnt see your last post! I think the both end things might be a bug I've never had it, but everyone is different hopefully it's a one off.

It's awful not being able to tell anyone why you are feeling so bad and I can see my dh's eyes glaze over when I start my nightly moan!

ithoughtofitfirst · 07/03/2014 21:08

zara you've just reminded me to mention the third and fourth thing that makes me cry; the thought of the labour (and thd fact that i had a 'lovely' one last time but it still, nonetheless, hurt like fuck), and the first few weeks with a newborn and a toddler.

My toddler is a dream though, and coping with having a crap mum like an absolute champ.

I'm going to bed now. At 9pm. Eurgh.

I was like you, strong hormones! N all that, same with the shifts only you need to tell your work escpecially if your job was like mine om your feet from the mokment you got there and with 45mins break in total. Its not good for you or the baby, my doc cut my hours immediatlet and told me to tell my boss either put me on part time or i go on the sick for 3months! X

Oh god, labour!

OH is all "dont think about it" but I said that if he was going to be ripped apart in November he'd be bloody thinking about it too!

Am definately going to tell work. Sadly I expect zero sympathy/exemptions. But at least if I have to leave early some day because I'm on the verge of death it won't look like I'm just skiving. There's nowt they can say about it if I've told them I'm pregnant.

you're not alone anna! see this thoroughly depressing 13 week post i wrote... the good news is that this morning at 16 weeks i wrote this one
i'm not going to say the first few weeks don't suck because they do. but stay focused on the fact that it should get better and give in to the little things that cheer you up right now.
and congratulations : )

The busier you keep yourself then the less you will think of it, and the faster it will go.

I had to tell work early. I'm 8 weeks and told them yesterday as I had to get signed off I was so exhausted I work for the Nhs long 13.5 hour shifts usually without a break. Work can't be flexible i.e I can't leave early or have fewer patients as not enough staff so I had no choice.
You need to look after yourself and put yourself first right now.

Mssleepyhead, i just bookmarked your 13 week post. It's comforting to know I'm not wierd or doing it wrong and I suspect I'll be rereading it lots in the endless weeks to come.

And the dry skin thing!!!! I was wondering why my nose was getting flaky for absolutely bugger all reason when it's never done that in thirty-far too many years! Oh great, now I have to disguise flaky skin as well! Oh for gods sake!

In all honesty i think the only thing that is that bad is feeling out of control of how you feel. Some days you feel great, others you feel awful but always at the least convenient times and you don't know when it's going to end.

I spent a lot of last night and this morning giving myself a bit of a talking to and, with some help from my husband, have come up with a 'kick pregnancy's ass' plan. It basically just consists of going to the gym and lists of things to do as the mood starts to dip.. all stuff i learned from CBT. I've got too long left to be giving up just yet!

Yes have started to realise same. Had a really deep sleep last night and woke up feeling not too bad. So I decided to take advantage of it and had breakfast in town with OH. Am starting to feel knackered now, but I feel good that i was able to have a nice morning. At least thats something.
