When did you have to start sleeping on your side?

And when do the recommend that you should?

I'm not sure about when it's recommended to
but I've just had to stop at 24weeks. Up until now I've kind of been half front/half side. I've started to wedge myself with a big pillow so I feel like I'm still on my front but its not cutting it sadly!

You only need to stop when it gets uncomfortable - either through being too big, or baby objecting and kicking the bed through your bump and keeping you awake Grin

I stopped very early, for me it was psychological because I just couldn't lie on the baby! If it helps, because I started early, I have gotten used to lying on my side and don't need a pillow (I'm 23 weeks), just get comfy with the way I position arms and legs.

I practically lay on my belly still at 39 weeks just wedge a pillow under so I'm slightly more on my left side than my stomach I've got one of the long maternity pillows x

(But I've got quite a small bump for full term!)

I pretty much stayed that way till 40+ weeks. Couldn't after though with my massive milk filled boobs!

it's the boob-ache that's stopping me (at 18w) although I'm finding it super hard to sleep on my sides, especially the need to swap over in the night when my hips ache. am used to belly sleeping and just tucking one arm under my head superman-style and changing sides without noticing, but with a big bolster between my knees it's more of an undertaking! Keep telling myself it's only going to get worse though....

I slept spooning OH, with one leg over him so my belly was lifted a bit! It's hard to explain but it was sooooo comfy! I didn't have a big bump though so it might be more difficult if you do!

I can't wait to be able to sleep on my tummy once more. I think it was 23-24 weeks coz started feeling bloated and baby would kick. Clearly didn't like me sleeping on my tummy.

It took me about a month to be able to lay comfortable on my sides as normally the tummy is the only way I can get to sleep

I had to stop straight away because of the boob-ache! :( Although I find hugging a pillow helps me sleep, I don't know how practical that will be with a big bump. As if we weren't tired enough with the crazy dreams and tiredness and sleeplessness!

At 36+2 I'm just about still able to sleep on my belly. I wake up with horrific boob ache and having had my innards tenderised by a small person but I've never not slept on my stomach and it doesn't seem that 8 months of pregnancy has changed that.

I recommend some clever pillow work to take your weight away from bump.

31+4 and still managing to sleep on my front Grin ... until baby kicks and wakes me up.

It's great to hear that lots of you are still sleeping on your front, even at 30+ weeks. I've been trying to sleep on my left side as 'practice' but don't think I'll bother now. Cross that bridge when I get to it I guess!!

Am in the same boat as gawjus. nearly 37 weeka, but am pretty much sleeping in the recovery position. It sort of works but I struggle to get to sleep on my sides

Like a lot of others, I got a long pregnancy pillow and still manage to somewhat sleep on my tummy at 34 weeks. I do find I move onto my side when the baby decides she's had enough.

I think I was around 24 weeks when I started to get creative with pillows to get comfy on my tummy. It wasn't that I had a big bump in the way, more that the baby would start moving loads if I rolled flat onto my tummy.

You need to change position as and when sleeping on your tummy is uncomfortable. Smile

I'm not even 7 weeks yet, and I'm finding it difficult due to sore boobs. Sleeping on my back and left side mostly now, and really not as comfy as I'd like. Can't imagine how much harder it's going to get...

Miel- That isn't actually correct I'm afraid. You can sleep on your front even once your bump starts to show, as long as you are still comfortable. Your body will let you know when you need to change position, and it's mostly a comfort thing. Also, although you are totally correct that sleeping on your left is the ideal position, what is far, far more important is getting some sleep in the first place. So the main priority is always finding a position that's comfortable and you can sleep in. After that, if you can sleep on your left then that's great. Smile

Personally I have never got on with those specialised pregnancy pillows, though I know some people find them great. I far prefer some normal pillows and duvet to support me. Trial and error I think.

I'm 40 weeks pregnant and still sort of sleeping on my tummy. I use a few ordinary pillows to sort of prop myself into the recovery position.

I was paranoid about sleeping on my stomach with DC1 but this time, I think as long as it's comfortable it's fine.
