Empty sac at early scan

I have been to a scan today- am 6 weeks pg. Went because of spotting which turned into brown bleeding (mainly) for the last week with intermittent light cramping. She could only see a sac, nothing else. The sonographer said it could either be the start of a MC or just because it's too early to see. She said she's seen it go either way. I've had early scans before and seen a HB at this stage, so am not overly hopeful Hmm
Has anyone any advice or experience on this, please? I am due to have a rescan in two weeks time- which feels like forever away Shock

oooh I think I wrote a similar thread to this 3 years ago. I also had a blood test where my levels did go up but not as much as they expected so they told me I had mc or ectopic. 10 days later we had another scan (longest 10 days ever) and there they were, 2 strong heart beats - ID twins! I'm not saying you are having twins but 6 week scans are often more stressful than waiting and a week makes a huge difference. The sac is still there so that is a good sign. Try to relax - I know that's ridiculous to say, but try to keep busy. Wish you the best x

My 6 week, empty sac is now 5 months old and asleep upstairs. It's not always bad news. My sonographer actually told me the sac was collapsing in on itself so really gave me no hope whatsoever. Went back a week later and there was the heartbeat. It's not over yet....x

I would like to reiterate what has been said before. I had a scan where could just see the sac, she is 8 years old now. And I bled from about 6 weeks until 16 weeks on and off. I hope it wall works out for you.

Wow! At all of you Grin
That's amazing.. Two weeks feels like an awful long time- did you all really feel like you were going to get sad news, at the time?

We went in for the scan expecting to be told we'd lost our baby and had had 2 weeks of tears. Being told it was two was probably a good way to find out it was twins as finding out at the usual 12w scan we probably would have been really scared but instead we laughed with relief and took the "it's meant to be so bring it on" attitude.

Were you also bleeding, PrincessScrumpy?

I guess if you really wanted to get one earlier and they pushed back, that you could go for a private scan?. Its pricey though.

I had an early pregnancy scan today (suspected ectopic- though thankfully not) and she said we were lucky to be able to see the yolk as sometimes it doesn't show this early. So perhaps there is some hope.

Poor you though, 2 weeks is a long time to feel anxious. hang in there.

Hi

I had an empty sac at 6 weeks and was rescinded at 7 to find a 2mm embryo and a yolk sac. We have been told it could go either way at the moment, my next scan is on Tuesday (10 days since the last one).

I hope that the comments from. everyone above has given you hope, like it has for me.

Wishing you lots of luck xx

Good luck, LauraAnne Smile
It sounds positive for you. Are they rescanning again because they couldn't yet see a HB? Not long now and stay positive x

My 'just a sac' following a massive bleed is now 2.5 and snoring in his room!

Thank you. There was no HB which worried me as reading everything it says that there should be one at 7 weeks... We are keeping everything crossed. xx

Hi, I know exactly how your feeling because 3 weeks ago I was in exact same position. I went in at 6w2d and all they could see was a sac, also told me to come back in 2 weeks. It's very hard to see anything at 6w point, it's the border line between seeing something and not. I went back to see hb and baby. So it def not over and I'm sure you will see summit there next time. I cheated and booked private scan at just over 7w so the 2 week wait was a bit easier. Good luck xx

I had the same bleeding, gP who told me I would "almost certainly miscarry", then a scan with no heartbeat as too early to tell. In my case they rescanned me a week later (I was five and a half weeks the first time I think) and there was the heartbeat! She is now 6. So don't give up hope at this stage. Really wishing you the best outcome.

Catbus I don't know if this is helpful or not but our early pregnancy clinic won't even scan until 6w5d because of this unless they are specifically scanning for an eptopic pregnancy.

I had a similar experience, 6w5d scan, sac but no pole. He's now 4.

Thankyou all Smile
I stopped bleeding 2 days ago but not sure if it will simply start up heavier.
A lot of positivity from you all though, which I'm increasingly feeling Smile
Brings a whole new meaning to two week wait Grin

Well, I'm now 8 weeks and went back for scan. This time for some reason it was really uncomfortable. The sac has grown and she thinks she can see something at the back but she said the scan was difficult to do. Do after waiting a week for the first scan, two weeks for this last one, I now have to wait another 10 days Sad
I am losing hope. Surely by now it'd be really obvious? This being in limbo is killing me..

I had this at a 6 wk scan. He is now 5 and it was fine, just too tiny to be detected.
Fingers crossed for you .

Sorry, just read your update. Had similar at my next scan, in fact nothing positive was seen until 9 wk 3 days., it was horrific but ok.

I will be 9 weeks++ by next time. I am finding it so hard to stay positive though Hmm

Hello Smile
I had the same problem as you where the sonographer thought she could see something at the back (and I'm overweight), so she used the transvaginal scan and found everything. It wasn't the most comfortable thing but if they offer I'd take it, it gives a pretty definite answer at this time. Lots of luck xx

catbus · 10/03/2014 18:07

Iwantittobepink- it was a transvaginal. That's why I'm losing hope..

I hope all is well but you really should be able to see something at 8 weeks. Has it been the same sonographer each time? What has your midwife said? Did they do more bloods on you?
