I have a midwife appointment later and I normally do my urine sample before breakfast but this morning I forgot and have had cereal and lots of toast and jam. Anyone know the best time I can do my sample now?? I'm worried that if I do it straight away it will show a massive amount of glucose in my urine and I'll be diagnosed with diabetes or something!

Ive done this plenty of times just tell them you forgot and that you ate sugary stuff they may ask for another sample in a day or two or they might not
smile happens all the time

Thanks Shadack! I would hate to be diagnosed with something else!! Already on pills for high blood pressure and allergies. Only 6 weeks to go and hoping to avoid any more problems!

If you're not diabetic, sugar won't get into your wee from eating this morning, however sugary it was. Only blood tests (and only certain ones of those) need to be fasting!

Like knotty says, it wont matter unless you are diabetic

I just do a sample prior to the appointment and have never had any problems

I've had sugar in my urine from eating sugar prior to sample. Midwife wasn't concerned and said it would be down to that. In my area if you aren't at risk of GD they only test if you have 2 sugary samples

I only ever do my sample when I get there - hadn't even occurred to me that what I'd eaten might have an impact. Sugar will only be present if you've got a problem. In which case you need to know about it do it'd be a good thing!

I ate tons of sweets before doing wee sample at my last mw appointment and still only just got +1 for glucose (I don't have diabetes) so I think you'll be fine after just having some jam. Mw said they don't tend to worry unless it's coming up as +4 on the test. Even then they would test you for gestational diabetes on a separate day, they wouldn't just label you as diabetic based on one urine sample.

Cheers all! My sugar levels were fine but I have trace protein which isn't good as I'm on meds for high BP :-( Just hoping I can make it through the next 6 weeks without developing pre-eclampsia!
