Do I need to get a baby bath?

I wasn't planning on getting one but just interested to hear what other people think

No. They are. Pain to fill and empty and you often endup putting it in normal bath so lots of bending

Use bathroom/ kitchen sink at first, or take in bath with you, ten regular shower/ bath

I wouldn't bother. I got one DS hated it and screamed blue murder the one time he used it. He just gets in with his dad now.

We got something like this. You don't turn your back on a baby in he bath for one second though. We just didnt have the room for another large gadget.

I wouldn't bother, they're a pain to fill and empty and take up space.

I found a towelling bath support more useful.

We used a baby bath in our bath with the John Lewis newborn bath support so you could have your handsfree. It used less water than filling the whole bath and our bathroom sink was too small.

Deffo. I used mine until dd couldn't actually fit in it anymore! Saved a lot of water IMO

This takes me back to our first midwife visit years ago. She wanted to show us how to bath dd so sent exp out to buy something suitable.

He brought back a really high sided plastic storage box. We have some great pictures of a tiny dd in the box full of water with a giggling midwife. God we were clueless

No, I wouldn't bother. All ours just went in the big bath with DH or I or each other. They still all go in together now (6,4 and 14m)

I had one that fitted over the bath, filled from the taps and had its own plug for emptying. I think it was called an Eezi bath or something but it was brilliant and I used it for ages.

This was 20 odd years ago though. No idea if they still make them but I wouldn't get a non-draining one.

If you have a good sized sink there is no need. I found the sink easier on my back. If you do get one second hand/charity shops often have them for a lot cheaper.

No but I found a baby bath support really useful for the first few months, takes up a lot less space too.

Ask around any friends or family with DC - they may be happy to lend you theirs and dying to free up the storage space

Used washing up bowl at times or DD, and then DS, came in with one of us.

Depends, you can cope fine filling the big bath, but that's rather wasteful of water. we have a separate shower in our bathroom, so I put the baby bath in that and then filled it from the shower, sat on the floor next to it to wash DCs then tiped it out in the shower cubical, so no lifting and bending to wash the baby, if I had to use it in the bath or fill it from the shower head and have to lift it to empty, I might not have bothered.

(and if you aren't on a water meter so it doesn't matter if you waste water, I'd not bother)

I used one with all my 4. I bathed them in the kitchen with the bath on the work top near the sink for easy filling and emptying. I would put the changing mat etc on the kitchen table.

We did have baths with them but you really need two people and a fair bit of time so it wasn't really practical.

I used it in the garden a lot! Still do in the summer, very useful for playing with!

A note of caution...

Be careful if you have metal taps on your basin.

When I bathed DD in the basin I took great care to make sure the water temperature was right, using a thermometer, but she got a small burn on her arm where it touched the tap, which was still hot from running the water in

yes, mine is 2yo and still used it. saves on water and she likes to be contained and splash about, better bubbles than when we are at the MIL and she needs to use the big bath...

will use it until she no longer fits...

I used one when they were really little but I also used the sink a lot. I liked the height of the sink and the spray attachment on the tap.

They are really cheap so it's not the end of the world if you get one but don't use it much.
