Pregnancy

Did anyone else have wonderful ideas about eating healthily only for things to go to pot?

When planning this pregnancy and in the first two weeks I was going to be the healthiest pregnant woman ever.

I was going to continue eating healthy, low carb food.

Then morning all fucking day and night sickness kicked in and all I ate inbetween bouts of puking was crisps. Tablets helped, but I still felt nauseous if I didn't eat carbs by the shed load every two hours. So I mainly lived off jacket pototoes, pies, chips, white bread and the odd cake and mcdonalds to keep me cheerful.

Now I'm 33 weeks and I have eaten everyhing in sight for weeks and I dot care anymore.

I've always had to watch my weight as previous dieting has screwed my matabolism, but I haven't weighed myself since 20 weeks but I estimate a four stone gain.

Dh bought me a box of thorntons this morning for valentines day. Just polished off the last one Blush

Please tell me I'm not alone!

My diet is absolutely horrendous Grin

At one point I was having a full Terry's Chocoloate Orange everyday and now I'm addicted to chocolate spread sandwiches! I'm eating far too many crisps as well...... Hmm Grin

OP your definitely not alone. I've never eaten so many carbs in my life as I have since I've been pregnant. Chocolate seems to be my big thing now - and pies! Previous to being pregnant I can honestly say that I hadn't eaten a pie in years ... Now I love them.

Consoling myself with the fact that its all temporary and normal service will be resumed once they are here.

Oh god, I got so whale like last time I was pregnant I vowed never again but at only 10 weeks in, I'm stuffing the food down like a starving person. It's the only way I don't spend the day being sick.
Fat or sick? I actually can't decide which is worse!

Was doing fine then at 7 weeks suddenly developed appetite of a rhino, and found eating carby food is the only thing stopping me from feeling sick. Diet currently largely comprises of cereal, biscuits, cake and sandwiches.... I also started this pregnancy with a belief that I was going to be uber healthy, but somehow when 'the hunger' hits, a piece of fruit just doesn't cut it.

I find fruit makes me feel worse, I get an awful empty sick feeling when I eat it.

Years ago when I was first pregnant I filled my desk drawer with healthy snacks to help me with any hunger pangs

A few days later even opening the drawer made me want to vomit...the idea of eating those healthy things....boak!

It was cheese and onion pasties and crisps all the way, apparently only potato products helped my sickness

I think pototo products should be free on prescription to pregnant women!

McCain microwave jacket pototoes are the best invention ever. They were a life saver in the early weeks, they would always stop the nausea. I still always have two boxes in the freezer just incase need a fix!

Yep same here too I cut my habit of diet coke and just drink water or dilute squash.

But the healthy eating wentv out the window when sickness kicked in crisps have been my life line.

I love cooking and totally lost interest smells just made me bad. Now I'm 32 weeks still got a bit of sickness but cooking more and more.

I'm overweight already so trying to make healthy choices but carbs are my best friend lol

I joined Slimming World thinking I could at least not gain a massive amount of weight during the pregnancy. Stuck it for 2 months then had a really stressful week and literally needed to eat junk food. It felt SO GOOD and honestly made me feel a lot better. So I messaged my SW consultant and told her I'd come back after the baby was born at some stage! And I also stopped weighing myself! Trying to be healthy-ish and at least have some fruit and veg every day and am still cutting way back on the caffeine, but I'm allowing myself full fat yogurts and chocolate when I need it.

I gained 35 lb with dd1, 10 in the first trimester due to carb cravings, was heavier at the start this time and reckon it'll be the same gain, feel so tired and sick all the time...at 7 weeks already a lot of my clothes are starting to pull, bit depressing. Worth it in the end though...

Xogawjus unless you were very overweight to start I'm sure that's about right for a weight gain..?

I said I'd review the healthy eating situation at 12 weeks when I felt better...then 20 weeks and now I'm 29. Oops.
But some days I can't stomach anything and others I'm starving.
Had nothing but citrus cravings throughout but have had to stop that as loose bowels (tmi)!

I'm with you. This is my second pregnancy and I only ever crave pies, chips and crisp sandwiches when pregnant. The rest of the time I love salads but for some reason salads in pregnancy make me want to vomit. Just make sure you're gettin your five a day somehow (smoothies?) and stuff it. I take pregnancy vitamins to supplement all the crap. I'm obsessed with carbs. White bread anyone?

Oh yeah, I was going to eat loads of fresh fruit and veg, cut down on all crisps and eat wholegrains. And I was going to keep up my exercise routine with the idea that I'd only gain a total of about 12 kilos during the pregnancy.

Well, that didn't happen.

From 7 to 14 weeks, if it wasn't a white baguette with butter, or a jacket potato with butter, or pasta with butter, I wasn't eating it. And I ate this pretty much every hour on the hour in order to keep the sickness at bay. And the gym? Forget it!

I just keep thinking about how breastfeeding will burn all the calories off and make me look like Claudia Schiffer .....

God I could have written your post! I wish I'd found you potato-loving lot when I was pregnant esp my first pregnancy. Those around me who were also pregnant at the time just seemed to stay so slim and had no problem eating salads and fruit, lean protein etc. Whereas lard arse here gained about 3-4 stone of pure carb as it was the only thing that stopped the never ending nausea.

Am having to chisel it off now too. Oh well, my two pickles are worth it! It makes me smile (albeit wryly) to thing the weight I have to lose is the combined weight of both children now (who are 1 and 3)!

Wish me luck Grin and best of luck to all of you as well. Get through the hard bits of pregnancy anyway you can, worry about the weight later.

I had pork pies for breakfast. I was actually impressed I felt like eating, and something with protein in it at that. (also fat, carbs and salt but MEH! I ATE BEFORE NOON!)

I'm trying to hold onto the fact I did mange to lose it while bf last time. It crept back up once I stopped bf. I wish I was one of those people that struggles to eat anything extra while pg!

I think it's quite interesting that pretty much all of you are carb loading. I'm only 7 weeks but just love carbs, was never all that bothered before but now I want bread and pasta and piles of it!!

hangs head in shame yep. I lost 5 stone before getting pregnant. I wanted a neat and tidy bump but even before my BFP I was eating anything in sight.... I've tried to snack healthily but I just want to eat everything. 28 weeks now and have gained about double what I should have at this stage.... I'd like to add my arms & legs are still relatively skinny but that may just be in relation to my arse. Comforting to know I'm not alone and also when I saw MW this week she said I looked perfectly healthy!!

Totally. With first dc i ate tonnes of fruit/veg and other healthy stuff which was made easier by fact i craved fruit. With dc 2 i wasnt horrendous but not as good as dc1.
This time with dc 3 i have barely touched an apple or a carrot, have eaten what i like pretty much when i like and yet to my delight (and smug plessure) ive only gained 21 pounds so far and im 36 weeks.
Im gob smacked it isnt more as i gained 2 stone with both previous dc's.
You just know im going to expode in the next few weeks :-(

Yes I was in the 'mind-over-matter' camp too before the all-day nausea kicked in... I could eat many healthy things as well but the calorific consumption was something else. A can of coke would keep me going through my commute, small sips and I wouldn't feel so rough, lots of crisps, millions of jacket potatoes, triple-portions of cereal. And no, I could not keep up my exercise routine. Working in the NHS I was lucky just to get through the day alive and spend the remaining hours sleeping... I wasn't expecting it to be glamorous but I truly do envy people who 'glow'. Tbf I had plenty of energy for things that I had to do, we had quite a bit of decorating and renovating going on at home plus work, but I never felt or looked like someone who was 'embracing' the experience.....
