Struggling to get in touch with midwife. What would you do?

Recently found out I am pregnant. Rang the doctors who said it's changed now and I need to get in touch with the midwives directly. I have been trying to get hold of them now for 3 days, I've left two messages and I just can't get through to them. I rang the doctors back who said there's nothing they can do and I just have to keep trying.

I'm starting to get really frustrated. When I was pregnant with DD I remember it was literally impossible to get through to the midwives and I always had to ring the labor ward for any concerns because they just don't answer the phone or return messages.

I'm not sure what to do now, do I need to get a grip? Or is this not normal?

It's normal where I am for them not to answer the phone as they are out and about doing appointments during the day, I've always left messages and heard back within 48 hours. Did you explain on the messages how far along you are, what you're ringing for etc? I'd suggest trying again tomorrow and explain its the third message you've left and you want a call back as a matter of urgency, but then I'd honestly give them a few days. If no luck by Monday I'd ring labour ward and ask about who to escalate it to.

I'm not sure how far along I am (haven't had a period since coming off the pill). I'll try leaving another message and then if I've not heard anything by end of the week then try ringing labor ward.

Thank you, it's so frustrating. I think it's annoying me more because I've also been trying to get hold of my mum since Monday and she also isn't answering her phone (as per usual).

Hooray a midwife just called back. Worrying for nothing as always.

If anyone else is reading for advice - some hospitals allow you to self-refer to their maternity services, check the website to see if there are any forms you can download (or pick up in person).
