Work requesting MATB1 form at 11 weeks

I have been off sick for the past week with bad all day sickness, dizziness and headaches. My company pay sick pay at the managers discretion, he is requesting my MATB1 form to prove my pregnancy so I can get paid. I am 11 weeks pregnant and understand that the form is not issued until at least 20 weeks. Any suggestions?

He's hoping as you are right they are only allowed to issue that form after 20 week and is for maternity pay only, not sick pay. You should be able to self cert for up to 7 days and then after that will need a doctors note...that must be what he means surely.

Have you got a copy of your notes, or appt letter for your scan that you could show? Or can you get gp to sign you off with pregnancy issues?

You can only get MATB1 after 20 weeks. Before that it's self-cert, or if longer, or if type of sick pay depends on pregnant status, then a doctor's note. GP should be fine - explain how much you're being sick.

As others have said, a note from your GP or midwife should be fine. Well, it'll have to be fine as you can't supply a MATB1 until you're at least 20 weeks.

Having managed people, including pregnant people in the past, 2 things spring to mind. 1 - when a line manager is being unreasonable/an idiot, it's usually because he/she is getting pressure from a higher-up who doesn't know all the details and only cares about the bottom line. And 2- a GP Sick note/fit note stating clearly reason for recommending time off is related to pregnancy should suffice. MatB1s are for mat pay really. If you get any further grief speak to a HR department if there is one, or seek union or independent advice.

Have you received your free prescription card from the NHS yet? Would that do until you can get your form? I remember I received that very early.

I second mel0dy, a GP can sign off for preg-related illness/sickness, MatB is a statutory requirement for maternity pay purposes only. They must be confused.

A letter from a GP will suffice, in legal terms. Doc says you are pregnant = you ARE pregnant.

Thanks everyone. I'm off to the docs today.

You won't get a MATB1 yet, get a note from your doctor in the normal way.

Doc diagnosed me with HG and sent me to hospital. The maternity ward were less than helpful and just give me anti sickness tablets and sent me home. Back to square one now, still feel like c**p!
