This wasn't planned and I was more scared of telling my boyf than my mum!

Told my mum after I seen the heartbeat on the early pregnancy scan just rang her n said need a word when u get home.

She cried at first but it was shock.

Telling my partners mum now that was funny

Shit out of it one day then the next week

The plan was to make her a cup of tea and slowly tell her while she was sat down.

It actually went from walking in her house, I just burst out laughing while my partner couldn't look in my direction so starred out the window, her saying what??? What are you laughing at and me saying he's got something to tell you!!!

So much for letting it out in the easiest way poss xxxx

I sadly don't get on well with my parents. I live at the opposite end of the country to them so doing it face to face would have been impossible. I emailed them!
relations have improved slightly since which is good.
When I told my mil she screamed!! I get on much better with her than my own mother so it was nice to get a positive reaction.

I wanted to be creative with telling people, as it took over 2 years to conceive... Wanted to savour it!

We recently had moved and my folks were visiting us. My mum had asked if we had found new services such as doctors etc. I said we had registered quickly, as its important to do when you're pregnant. They were so pleased and jumped up and hugged us!

With mother in law, did a similar thing, said that I can't drink as its not good for pregnant women. Took a moment to sink in but then she reacted, it was lovely.

A few other people, I managed to slip it into the conversation casually. Such good fun!!

We live away and skyped my mil.

DH just shoved the scan pic towards the camera and she fell forward and disappeared off screen.

(I thought she'd had a heart attack)

10 seconds later she's back again and screeching with happiness into the screen.

'Twas lovely Smile

My MIL guessed when I was 8 weeks. MIL and FIL live at the other end of the country and had come to visit. Had only seen them 2 weeks previous though. Before they left MIL said to my DP, "so have you got something to tell us before we leave" my DP said "what? That we're engaged, you know that" (we'd got engaged about a week before), MIL response was "no, that we're going to have a new little addition to our family?" She was so excited, and has called my DP at least twice a day since to check I'm ok. They're back up staying with us this weekend and when I came home yesterday from seeing my friends, she'd been shopping and bought me lots of cakes as that's what I've been craving. She just can't wait. My FIL is excited and is always asking how I am and making sure my DP is looking after me.

I bottled it when I was going to tell my parents the first time on New Years Day, so told them the week after and just said "we have a belated Christmas present for you...you're going to be a grandma and grandad again!" My DM was very shocked, not very happy, although she denied it. She kept being very negative and talking about how it was going to affect her life and what she won't be able to do now (not sure what she's expecting, it'll be our child not hers) and she hasn't mentioned it since. She's always told me I'm not "allowed" to have children so I knew she wouldn't react well. My DF on the other absolutely loves kids and dotes on my nieces and he is very excited and wanted to tell everyone! Such a contrast.

I asked my mum whether she felt ready to be a grandmother and she said 'No, not really...OH!' which was quite funny.

DMIL was very ill (dying) in hospital and separated from DFIL but DH asked his dad to visit his mum with him and when they were together he showed them the scan photo. Neither of them said anything until they'd put on their glasses!

I'm so glad DMIL knew but so sad she died before we found out the sex. We named DD after her.

Every time I tried calling my mum she was out. I wanted to tell her myself, so kept leaving a message with my dad to say I'd called. After the second or third time she guessed, but every time she tried to ring me I was out... went on for several nights Grin BTW I am the last person on the planet not to have a mobile.

We got all parents together and gave them a Xmas card (it was December) saying "Merry Christmas to brilliant grandparents", then an IOU for the best Xmas present ever on baby's due date.

DM cried. MIL (annoyingly) said "I knew it." She didn't.

I might have struggled to say the words "I'm pregnant" so making them read it and work it out for themselves was better for us.

We told my in-laws we would be in town and would they like to meet us for coffee. They guessed something was up. We met them for a cuppa and they cried when we told them. Soooo happy! My mum and dad were really shocked and my dad refused to talk about it as it was too early and we hadn't had the scan yet. My mum was pleased but also cautious. My mum and sister just didn't get how I could know that I was pregnant without seeing the dr and having a blood test! "But how do you know"?!! They had no concept of a home pregnancy test! No idea why not!

I had to tell my parents over the phone as my car broke down on the way to visiting them - I was really disappointed that I couldn't tell them to their face but they were both ecstatic Smile

I had only known for one day when I told my parents and was still in shock. I couldn't say the word 'pregnant' so I said, deadpan, "I took a test yesterday and it was positive." My mum cried and cried and my dad was chuffed.

A week later, dh told his parents that I was "a little bit pregnant" and we got a similar nice reaction.

My mum lives over the other side of world. Emailed my mum as wanted to tell her at the same time as DPs siblings should anything have been put on FB (the time difference made it so it was impossible to do it verbally for everyone). She just wrote back 'you must be happy'... I haven't heard a peep from her since (long toxic story!).

I'm 10 Weeks and we haven't told anyone. I don't think anyone has guessed either. My parents live abroad so I'm planning on emailing them a scan photo with a letter from the bean. We'Re having a family reunion too close to my edd so I won't be able to fly and I need to explain that too. At the moment they think work will get in the way. Mil will be f2f as she only lives down the road but I think I'll leave that one to Dh.

I phoned my mum up and said, "I think I might be pregnant." I actually knew I was pregnant, I was just trying to ease her into it. Her response was, "Have you been having unprotected sex?" FFS I was 35 and already had two children, it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise.

My MIL found out as soon as I had peed on the stick because my husband could not keep his mouth shut... He is such a mummy's boy which is quite cute, really...

I told my parents over coffee and cake with my granny present as well. My mum was most delighted, my dad took a moment to process it and my granny probably wouldn't remember it much more than five minutes Grin. With hindsight I wish I had kept it a secret for a bit longer because my mum will not stop giving me silly, patronisong advice about not lifting anything heavy etc...

I have no idea how I'm gonna do this one. I'm 34 and been with DP for 9 years. No reason at all for me to be nervous but I just feel like a 14 year old when I try to imagine the conversation. Only negativity I anticipate is them worrying about our finances. Might make DP do it. :)

I just told mine. Only been with DP for a year and a half, we aren't married and don't own a house, and I've had a termination before, so I wasn't 100% sure they'd be ok with it, but actually they were over the moon Smile. My mam's positively giddy with it and has been telling me loads of stories from when she was pregnant, and my dad's hoping to be a really hands-on grandad. He gave my little bump a pat and he's given it a name lol.

We played on our surname 'Christmas' and H had a tshirt that said 'Father Christmas' and I got a babygro and wrote 'Baby Christmas' on it and told his parents in person by showing them, and then we told my mum over skype by showing her, then took photos and emailed them to our siblings and my dad.

Both our parents live 6-8 houes away so it's rarely done in person.

For this one, DC2 is just learning to read, so we put a "Big Brother" t-shirt on DC3 and videoed her trying to read it (it was not clear from the video what the t-shirt said) Then sent the video to them and got them to watch it whilst we were on the phone!

With DC2, I had my brother round and he's a bit of a science geek like me, so we were talking about pregnancy tests and I said "let's see what happens if you wee on one" So he went upstairs and POA-digital. I meanwhile dipped a second digital into some wee I'd saved earlier. He brought it down, I secretly swapped the one he'd used for mine. Should have seen his face when he saw that "his" test had come up "Pregnant"! Then the lightbulb moment..

I've also shown up at the in-laws 20 weeks pregnant and waited to see how long it was before they realised it wasn't pies.

Other times I've just told my parents on the phone. My mum is usually less than enthusiastic, with such great statements as "Well, it's early yet" and "Bugger" despite the fact all our babies have been planned. She is pretty keen once the baby is here, I think she is just a bit wary of pregnancy as her mother lost a baby in late pregnancy once and she remembers it all quite vividly.

First time I gave my mum a copy of the scan picture, she stared at it and said 'whose is that?' Grin

The second time I got a handmade christmas card made (as dc was due at christmas) and attached the scan pic to that.

I can't remember what we said to my parents exactly (ds1 is 16...it was a long time ago), but I do remember my dad raising one eyebrow, looking straight at dh and saying completely deadpan "so.....you've been sleeping with my daughter then?"
He then fell about laughing, and was almost as delighted with his "joke" as he was about his first grandchild!
Dh and I were in our 30s and had been married for 7 years......my dad is weird Grin
