Daft question but what the hell do you do with a top and tail bowl?

As the title says really! Bought a bath set months ago which included a top and tail bowl, at the time I thought it would be handy but having just taken the set out of the plastic I've realised I literally don't have the first clue what you do with it? Use it in the bath? On it's own? Help!

Stick it in a cupboard and forget about it I believe is the standard way to use them Grin

Put it in the loft.

This is such a lovely FTM question, made me smile Wink

You use it for washing /cleaning the baby - water on both sides, one side you use only for the top/face and the other only for their behind /tail!

We didn't use it but I'm guessing its to keep different cloths in for their top & tail so you don't wash their face with a flannel that's done their bits.

leave it to gather dust! so i think use one bit for eyes etc and other bit for bum-bum. in reality wipes for bums, run cotton wool under tap for eyes. i never used it first time round which reminds me, having brought it down from attic should shove it back up there in my next attic scramble

Use mine every morning to wash DS. I fill one side with warm water and then wipe him all over using cotton wool pads and dab dry before cream.

He has a bath every night, but like to freshen him up before dressing. Have done this every morning since he was a few days old.

I feel your pain - there were loads of baby things I hadn't a clue what to do with! I use my top and tail bowl for cleaning baby when changing her as you are not meant to use baby wipes till they are older. Fill it with warm water to use with cotton wool to clean her bum (and face if need be between baths - mine ends up with crusty milk face all the time!).

If you're anything like me, use it once, then wonder how it differs in purpose from...a bowl.

Used mine with PFB for about 6 weeks then progressed onto wipes. DC2 didn't get to use it as DC1 uses in the bath as a boat!

We use ours as a tortoise bath.

Dont think its ever had a baby in it. Always seemed such a faff

We were in scbu, with hygiene being paramount. they gave us one bowl and suggested we do face, then bum. :)

Most people store them in the back of hthe cupboard or store toiletries in them.
Or you could use to serve sweeties or olives I guess.

Loving all the suggestions of throwing it in the bin - looking back I cant remember why I thought it would be useful! Though like the idea of letting bump use it as a boat when it's older!

Save it for they're old enough to do craft activities and shove beads/ glue/ paint in there.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/01/2014 22:16

leave it on top of the changing unit with cotton pads/flannels in one side, and creams/lotions/potions in the other.

Or give it to the cat/dog as a swanky new combo feeding bowl.

Most useless bit of kit ever!

I've used mine to vomit into when having a 'both end' stomach upset a few times. It was the closest thing to hand in the bathroom. Other than that, I don't recall it being used.

Unearthly - Thank you for that comment. I've always failed to understand why you couldn't do face first and then bottom. Seems my approach has the SCBU seal of approval!

I should add that I use it downstairs but have a Tupperware bowl ( which may or may not be an old takeaway carton) upstairs to do the same job!

If you have small feet you can use it as a feet bath and give each of your feet a different soak at the same time. Also good as a herb pot.

I work for a charity and part of our remit is to supply second hand, donated baby equipment and clothing to families referred to us by health care professionals and workers who would otherwise be unable to afford prams, cots etc. We have a shortage of everything and demand is high, that is everything except top and tail bowls, we have hundreds!

Fifi is that a national charity. I have loads of baby stuff to donate, and not a top and tail bowl in sight!

Ds is 6.5m and we use ours daily. Warm water in one side, use cotton wool to wipe face, hands, then bum. Dirty cotton wool & nappy goes in other side. We do this every morning before putting clean clothes on and in the evening if we don't do bath.
Does everyone really use wipes all the time? Ds gets dreadful rash from wipes on face.

Report
bouncysmiley · 03/01/2014 08:13

I used it for first few months dry cotton wool in one end and water in the other. Wipe bum or face then bin used cotton wool. Just don't double dip! I knew it wasn't supposed to be used exactly like that but that worked for us.
