How do you know if you're leaking waters? I feel wet bit I know I haven't peed myself. I was sat on my bed and I could feel it coming Out (if that makes sense) my knickers are damp but when I wipe it's clear. Should I be worried ? I'm confused Sorry about tmi x

call the ward. wear a pad in the meantime (for the sniff test).

waters smell like baby iyswim a bit sweetly. not at all like urine.

I found that mine were far more trickle than gush, did read somewhere that you could try laying down for a bit then as you get up you might get a bit of a gush? I would certainly make a note of the time and also call the ward midwives they may want to check you out.
pop a pad on in the interim.

Thanks. I don't want to mess them about especially if I have just peed myself. :/

stom I'm not sure how far along you are but its important to get it checked out ASAP they won't be bothered its a false alarm.
When my waters broke early it was very much like peeing myself only no pressure or urge to pee.i stood up and it just suddenly ran down my legs.

If you have no pads around use a clean towel or dish towel they will want to try guess just how much fluid (if your early) and they do sniff.

I'm 32 weeks today. And it's like tiny but I'm say on my bed and every now and then it's like a tiny trickle. My bladder is empty as I pee all the time. But it feels
Like it's coming from my fanjo (sorry) this is my first so everything is new and scary!

That sounds like it might be amnotic fluid if it leaks everytime you move.
You need to call your maternity unit.

LittleBairn · 26/10/2013 16:16

stom just wanted to resume you that even if it is amnotic fluid it doesn't neccessarily mean early delivery.
My friend had her waters go much earlier but only trickles, she was put on bed rest and made it well into 30 weeks.

Oops I didn't mean resume I meant REASSURE. Damn predictor text.

Thanks I've put a pad on and I'll see what that's like for half hour then I'll call them. Baby is moving x

Contact your MW or the hospital, they have a magic swab thingy they rub on your pad and it changes colour if it is your waters rather than wee.

It seems worse when I cough but then I'm not sure if I'm weeing. Think I'll have to call them for reassurance :/

To me amniotic fluid smells like sweet, really good hay. A good way of telling in you're leaking is to listened really well when you've been fr a wee.. You should be able to hear if your leaking after you've finished weeing.

Definitely call the hospital. They will want you in ASAP and will have a look with a speculum to see what they can see.

Don't panic about it too much. I promed at 30w with dd and 22 weeks with ds. They are both fine. It is scary but will be ok.

Of course it could be wee :)

My waters leaked at 30 weeks, it was just a small amount, happened randomly over a few days. They didn't have the test then and told me it was probably wee or discharge.
Better to call your midwife now and see what they say.

Yeah I'm putting it off and I know I shouldn't lol. I've put a bad on and I can feel myself
Leaking and felt wet but my pad feels dry so I'm not sure if it's in my head or it's so tiny amount that the ad is just useless. If that makes sense. The hospital is a 30 min drive :/

Pads are good at sucking the moisture in, so you might not notice it is wet.

With me, it only happened a few times and I felt like a right twat at the hospital with my damp knickers or pad that felt dry. I still don't know for sure if I was leaking waters, but the midwife said it was probable with the polyhydramnois that I developed later on (thats just excess fluid, baby and me were fine).

Just call for advice, they might just tell you to stay at home and monitor it.

this exact thing happened to me this morning. I wasn't sure, so phoned up the hospital and they told me to go in to get checked. Turned out to just be discharge, but feels wetter to me IYSWIM. But they were lovely about it and didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time. So I would suggest that you give them a ring and they will reassure you one way or the other.

stom honestly call ahead that way you will get taken straight to maternity triage were they will inspect the pad and may do an internal examination. Is important to know because of your leaking amnotic fluid your cervix might be slightly dilated and you and the baby are at risk of infection.
It's better to go and feel like a fool than stay at home possibly endangering you both.

I called and they said to keep and eye on it. I put the pad on at half 4 and to me it's try and I feel dry so I think maybe it was just me or I was sweating abit?

Do go in and get checked. I thought I had leaking waters at 38 weeks with DS1. I went in and they told me I'd wet myself. I wasn't at all pushy, and took their word for it. Two weeks later I had a big bleed when I went into labour, 40 degree temp and had to have an EMCS. DS fine thank goodness but we were both on IV antibiotics and were in hospital for a week - all down to a uterine infection caused by the leak. Really don't want to scare you but needs checking. Can you go to the hospital in the morning? All good wishes to you and hope its nothing.

I'm just at the hospital now. On a heartbeat monitor. Waiting to see the dr but they're quite busy so could be a while x

Did you have a bath? I thought my waters went with dc1 but I had just sucked up bath water and it was trickling out Blush

Same again with dc2

Contact the hospital. I turned up to my last ante-natal appointment and told the doc that i was having a lot of discharge. He insisted that i be checked out by the midwives and ended up being admitted for an induction because they thought my waters had broken and i had an infection.

As it happens my waters broke during labour but it's not worth the risk.

Good luck!
