Welcome ladies, new and old. Grin May we all have dull and boring pregnancies. Pull up a chair, crack open a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine and settle in for mutual handholding, fishslapping and neurosis.

impatient kjh
Re early scans. I'm having a private one at 8wks. I didn't want to go any earlier, as last time I had one at 5+6, and there was almost nothing to see - definitely no heartbeat. So other than proving that I was pregnant (which the test pretty much did) and ruling out an ectopic, it didn't give me much more information.
I feel (hope) that if we can see a heartbeat at 8wks, that will give us a milestone we didn't reach before. And as kjh says, the risk of problems after 8 is quite a lot lower than after 6w. It's up to you, but although I expect the scan to help a bit, I'm pretty sure it won't stop the anxiety until 12, and we're still not planning to tell anyone, including family, until then.

Right, now that I've hung the curtains and plumped up the cushions in our new home, we can restart the chat.

impatiently - I had a private scan at 8+4 weeks in this pg. It was £70 and I had to shop around a bit (and travel in slightly the wrong direction) but it was very much worth it. Although I did have a scan at the EPU at about 6+5 too after a tiny bit of spotting. The reassurance was very much needed. I know there is still a chance of a mc after seeing the heartbeat, but if there are no other symptoms (i.e. you didn't see the heartbeat after getting scanned for cramping/bleeding) I think the risk is down at 1-2%. I think everyone recommends holding out till about 7-8 weeks if you can, as that gives you a much better reassurance. If you get scanned at, say, 6+4 weeks, and are 4 days out on dates, then they might not see a heartbeat even though the pg is developing normally.

I like horses too - but not shitlands saggy - I think they're evil little critters. The one I learnt to ride on certainly was! I would love DC to have open access to horses but I know what financial, emotional and time investments they require, and so I've been quite firm to DH that we'll never own our own. (I gave up riding seriously in my teens following yet another heartbreak and an awareness that horses meant no holidays or social life.)

Oh yes, I'm also a believer in not telling people who would be disappointed if you mc. So we told one very close friend but no family. Oh, and my boss (due to the bleed) but didn't tell my mum or sister till after the 12 week scan/tests. I just couldn't bear the thought of them being sadder for their own loss than for me, if that makes sense.

Santa! [Shock] wash your mouth out! How dare you insult Shetlands! They only have one problem! Stupid people who treat them like toys, rather than like the miniature draft horses that they really are! not you btw
Ive told quite a lot of people about the baby this time, and I did last time when I MC. The support was overwhelming. I couldnt have coped without them. going through it was bad enough without going through it alone! I dont regret telling people at all!

Is anyone else taking HPTS just to see the word "pregnant"? Or just me? It's just to reassure myself that I'm not actually imagining the whole thing, I think. Ultrasound on Tuesday...counting the days down.

Thanks everyone for your experiences of early scans. It's helped me decide on what I probably wanted to do anyway and have one. I probably would have booked one for 7 weeks though, but from what you've all said i'm going to book one for 8 weeks instead and then tell parents/sisters after that. Seems like a lifetime away now though as i'm only 5+5. It's actually good timing as DH is abroad with work for a week when i'm 8+2, so it means we can tell people before he goes away in case the worst was to happen when he was away.

Called up my GP this afternoon and got an appointment this evening which was super quick. I was hoping my luck would continue and I'd get a reassurance scan referrer GP, but alas he wasn't having any of it. I'm don't really believe or appreciate his line in stats. It was the same GP I saw during my miscarriage, and both today and back then he told me 1/3 of pregnancies end in miscarriage. I don't think that is right. Thought it was closer to 1/4-1/5? He also told me that my risk of miscarriage has increased after the first one. He's quite a nice man but proper doom and gloom, if I didn't have this this thread or had researched online I would think there is no chance for me.

He is also the second GP from that practice to be highly dubious of me taking vitamin D. It's on the NHS website, it's not like i'm self medicating crack!! Obviously that practice haven't got the memo that current guidelines include vitamin D.

Anyway thanks all again about early scan info. Going to research places now and see if I can find somewhere cheaper than the £100 i'd initially seen.

Impatiently your GP sounds like he needs an update! Confused Confused

Im on vitamin D. apparently its because rickets is on the rise due to people spending less time outside and wearing high factor suncream! iirc it doesnt do any harm even if you didnt need it, because it isnt stored in the body. --although I might br wrong about that last bit, food science was 20!! years

Thanks for the new thread santa!

Impatiently I am outraged by your dunce of a GP! I feel so lucky I had a well-informed, sympathetic female GP throughout this whole pg thing. Your chances of another MC actually drop if you get pg within 6 months after having gone through one. I honestly despair of the medical profession sometimes!

and thanks for the reassurance garden and shell I will try to be more positive. Thanks for the lovely batshit thread, santa! And thank you whoever added me to the list. It was really dim, but everytime my name disappeared from an update, I thought it might be an omen and mean I wasn't going to stay on the thread. Batso.

Kat, my lovely new kitchen got installed last week, we've just waiting for the builder to return to build us a really long built-in bench sort of thing with the same wood in three weeks then it's all done. Heritage Grey from Wickes on the 15% + 50% off (they do it about 4 times per year, the 50% most of the time, but the 50 +15 at times). Came to (shamefacedly don't quite know) but around £3,500 including installation and removal of old kitchen. The installation (1.5k) was nearly as much as the kitchen, but when they did it, boy did I appreciate the difference between my very good at DIY DH and a pro job. Smooooooth! Rather in love with it, but looking forward to getting the bench done, then we can paint it as it's just bare plaster (we got it replastered at the same time inc the cost).

Batshit update: Still batshit. Still pregnant. Or at least, I'm not not pregnant, so that'll do. 8 week scan on Sunday (crossing everything)

Very chunky indeed, and the handles are really heavy metal (which strangely makes them feel really expensive). They all have soft close techno doors (they shut themselves really quietly). I'd warn do not pay Wickes prices for worktops. For literally nearly a third of the price get Worktops Direct to cut them and send them, and theirs are a half inch thicker too. Very decent service from Worktops Direct too. Also shop around for appliances. We kept our old oven and hob as I liked them, but changed the sink (B&Q Cooke and Lewis range) and the undercounter fridge and freezer (we had a full height one, but wanted the extra worktop room and space). Wickes charge through the bottom for them, so I'd order anything like that separately.

Other MNers have had this kitchen and we got it on their recommendation so you might want to look for that thread.

Ooh thanks for lovely new thread ladies. Envious of all this kitchen talk- the kitchen is the only thing we haven't replaced or redecorated in our house and we are in limbo with it as can't decide whether to move or stay and extend it.

Vitamin k - I was told to take this but I've given up on my pregnancy vits as they made me gag so much. Should I get back on them then? Feel I've had plenty of sunshine recently, might be more of an issue in coming months.

Might have felt baby today. Had just had some sweets then felt wriggliness in lower abdomen. Could have been 'pinging' though, I don't trust myself after being convinced in last pregnancy that I'd been feeling flutters which obviously were not baby.

total have you used the osteo before for your pelvis? I've seen a chiropractor on and off since spd in first pg but she has always been very tentative in manipulating my pelvis as she is worried about my hips sublocating. I feel a need someone to be a bit firmer with my pelvis so was thinking of trying osteo this time. Not sure what difference is?

Report
TotalShock · 05/09/2013 21:16

Pixie I have seen him for a while. My pelvis was tilted forwards and higher on the left side. He has managed to get it dropped down and back but he thinks it was damaged in my fall at 16 when the bones aren't fully stable so has fused badly. It's like a deep massage to release my muscles and ligaments but I have loads of trigger point which are pretty painful

I had a bit of a turn in there today though, went very hot dizzy and felt very sick so he just did an assessment and no treatment and told me to talk to my midwife. My joint has become over mobile probably due to the pregnancy hormones making my existing problem worse.
