Freecycled Graco Quatro Tour Travel System

I'm a little over 11 weeks with my first and the OH is getting very cost concious. He came home the other day with a Freecycled Graco Quatro Tour travel system.

If I can get it nice and clean, would there be any H&S issues with using a second hand pram? It seems in good condition other than needing a clean.

Also, has anyone used this type? Is it a good one??

The only issue would be with the car seat

And a cot mattress. Everything else should be fine :)

guidelines do say to not use a second hand car seat this is purely because it might have been in a car accident or be damaged

Ah. Sad

Oh well. There's obviously a reason I ask so many questions. I wouldn't have known that.

Thank you everyone...as always, the patience on these message boards with first timers like me is admirable. Thanks

With car seats (like bike helmets) you can't see any damage that's on the inside so if your car seat had been in an accident and damaged inside your little one wouldn't be safe in it and you wouldn't know until you were in another accident and the wee one wasn't protected. That's a long sentence.

Jolleigh its not the worst pram around especially when its free!

Aslong as you can get it clean and the wheels etc seem sturdy enough then it should be fine.

Like others have said I wouldn't use the car seat as they can be damaged easily and you don't know the history of it (been in an accident/stored in hot/cold temps and dropping can cause interior damage which would prevent it from being safe) but you can buy a new one fir around £80, you need the Graco Junior Baby 0+ seat.

Again though I would say that basis shouldn't really be in the car seat for more than 2 hours at a time as it can damage their spines and restrict breathing if used all the time on the pram.

Did the carrycot come with it? If not you can buy one for "30, I'd recommend it as its cissy and means baby can face you fir a while :)

Peanut - the car seat bit seems to fit into the rest of the buggy and faces me when it does. Should there be another piece?

Trying not to chop off OH's balls by basically telling him that we can't use what he's brought home. But if the only bit I can really use is the buggy, that may be a conversation I have to have with him. Confused

Thanks Peanut that seems like a relatively good price, and I can't complain considering the pushchair has come free Grin Thank you

There is a soft carrycot that goes with the pram, its like a little fleece lined cocoon that you place in the seat facing you (with the seat fully reclined) and the hood flips over to the footrest turning it into a cosy pram :)

You can buy the Graco Kosycot on Ebay (I think) for about £30 new or about £15 used.

You could potentially get the whole system for £89 if you kept the pram and replaced the car seat and carrtcot.

Although I'd check its what you want as that could be money towards something else, it is quite an awkward pushchair I've found and not the smallest fold so that may be something to look into.

Just had an eBay root...there are a few there but no matching ones and I have the time to hold out for a matching one Grin Thank you so much. xx

Actually I got one of those prams from Freecycle - and used the car seat with the easy fit snap in base ...
Wouldn't have bought a second hand car seat - someone might be hiding its history to make money -but from freecycle you should be pretty safe - and could always e-mail them and ask if it has been in an accident ..they aren't going to lie!
Only thing I would be careful of is the expiry date -should be date stamped on somewhere ...and if it is past that buy a new one ,...
Pram itself is big for fitting in boot etc - but for walking to local shops etc - lovely big basket underneath and for older DCs the seat goes upright - great so they can easily see where they are going with a tray for sippy cup and snack ...I (and DD) liked it ...
(did have a more compact, umbrella type, lightweight one for in car boot too)

I've got one of these and it'll be going through DC4 in January. I love it especially the snug carrycot for newborns.
