I have an early scan on Thursday where I'll be between 5-5+3 weeks. What will I see? I'm scared Hmm

Hopefully a dark "bubble" that is the sac, with clear definition at the edges, possibly a very tiny little blob, possibly too early to see a blob. Good luck

There isn't much to see at that stage - don't panic if there is no heartbeat, or even if the sac is there but appears to be empty!

Everything is so tiny and tbh, even at 7 weeks with ds there was no heart beat - another scan five days later and there it was.

A black blob with a tiny white blob inside. Probably no heartbeat yet.

I have a scan pic of DD at just the same age! Smile

Nothing much. Maybe a black spot where the baby has implanted. There is no heartbeat normally visible until at least 6 weeks, but often 7. If you're lucky you might see a speck which is the embryo. They will be able to tell if it is in the uterus and not ectopic (very unlikely anyway). Why so early if you don't mind me asking? IME 8-9 weeks is ideal for an early scan if no problems are expected.

At 5 weeks, just a sac I think. It might look empty too, but that's normal with a scan so early. They will be able to tell you if the pregnancy is in the right position though (in case you were getting back pain and worried about an ectopic pregnancy).

People often see a heartbeat by 6 weeks, but you probably wont at 5+3.

Ok, I'm going to try and push it back a week, thanks.

Ok got it now at 6 - 6+3 weeks. The reason of the scan is 3 fold tbh! Cramps which gp wants differentiating between IBS or pregnancy issues, to check for multiples as dp's dad is a triplet and both my parents are twins, and most importantly, for reassurance.

I think early scans are great for reassurance and an idea of dates. Please remember that they only tell you everything is ok at that particular second in time. But still try to enjoy. It's an exciting time!

Is this your first (or first few!)? With DD2 I went for my first scan at 6+3 and no hb was picked up. I had to go back two weeks later and tbh spent the two weeks terrified that I was going to miscarry again. Two weeks later there it was and she is now 10 months old. So even at 6+3 try not to worry if there is no hb. There might well be one (or two, or three :) ) but equally there may not be.

I had a scan at about the same time due to spotting and all you could see was the yolk sac. Just looked like a circle, nothing else was visible yet so don't be worried if you can't see the baby it will be there just still embedded in the womb lining. x

I had a scan at 5+4 and we saw the heart beat and york sac. They also measure heart beat rate but not all heart beats can be seen that early.

I could only see the sac at 5+5 and had to go back at 7 weeks to see the heartbeat etc.
But it was great to see the development stages from sac to baby xx

I had a scan at the same time - I had had quite heavy bleeding (haematoma) but there was no heartbeat - I had to wait a week and then there it was. You won't see a heartbeat before 6 weeks so do not panic Smile you will see a blob! Smile

Cool, well as I've rearranged it I'll be somewhere between 6 and 6.5 weeks so hopefully they'll be something to see!

On Wednesday of last week I had a bit of cramping so went to hospital was told to go to EPU next morning I did an first thing they said was likely ectopic but hasn't even ran tests, finally had a scan an there wasn't anything to see but at only 4wks I'm sure that was normal? There was however a cyst/sac on my left side outside the womb, My hcg level was 367 and 48hrs later only rose to 437 I no longer have pain I haven't had any bleeding but they have asked me to go in tommorow (Monday) so they can scan and confirm ectopic! I'm so confused as to what I'm to think and have got in a terrible state an I still feel all of the things I should be horrible smells sore breasts mood swings :s please someone reply even just with an opinion pls, sarah xx

When I booked my reassurance scan I was told by the Company that there was very little point in going any earlier than at least 7 weeks as it is very rare to see the heartbeat before then. She said that there is nothing reassuring about having a scan to confirm a viable pregnancy but then only seeing a blob with no signs of life!! Hmm Smile

I decided to book it for when I was 7 weeks and 3 days and there was the most obvious heart beat - it was lovely!!
