Best bedside cot for co sleeping while breastfeeding that doesn't cost a small fortune?

I don't think I can stretch to nearly £300 for an 'arms reach', as much as I would love to.

Which one would you recommend?

There was a poster on mnet who got one from the fern an amazon sits for £100! I will see if I can find the thread, it wasn't long ago.

Take some measurements and see if one of the Ikea cot beds are the right height for you. Most of them have one side you can take off and a lot of people take it off, tether the cot to the side of the bed and if there is any gap, they fill it with foam.

Links on this thread to the German amazon site. There was another thread more recently as well but I can't find that one.

I got the baby bay from amazon .de. Much cheaper than buying in uk.

Get the ikea one and convert it yourself by taking 4th side off. Very easy. Will look for link.

I didn't know about that about German Amazon, thanks for the links 5madthingsSmile

Tinierclanger - would you rate the baby bay? Did you buy the basic model?

I was thinking of an Ikea cot but then I was worried how the baby would feel being in such a big space?

We didn't have a problem with the size tbh. If you think about it all the bedside ones are 'open' anyway on the 4th side.

The NCT shop hires out those clip on bedside cots- I'm seriously thinking of getting one. You can buy it for £300 or hire it for 6 months for £99. I'm thinking of hiring it - they do last for up to 8 months depending on the size of your baby (I'm assuming you could extend the hire period if you want) I just thought it's not that much more than a moses cot, lasts longer and would be better for BF at night and keeping baby secure and happy. here's a link- there are other bed nest/cots that attach to the bed on the website tho not sure if you can hire any of the others:

funny I was just talking about this on another thread!

just looking at the Amazon.de website- anyone know how to translate a web page?? Also, 5madthings what was the postage cost from there?

a good option by the looks of it if you don't want to hire...

oh sorry- my question about buying from the german website should be for tinierclanger!

mumoftwoboysS · 23/07/2013 13:44

sorry another question- so does it come with a 4th side so you can put that side up if you decide to have it as a stand alone cot? The NCT cot does this.

last post! look on ebay too- some of those bednest cots are going - cheaper than full price tho you'd have to buy a new mattress...

We got a generic one off eBay for £40 (had this downstairs as I slept in the living room for a week or so after c-section) - and also have an Ikea Gulliver which we set up between our bed and the wall with one side off - this is great value as it'll last for ages as a proper 4-sided cot once DD is a little older rather than be practically useless after 6mths.

Kiddicare have one in their shop. Haven't looked into it properly as I no longer have a baby, but I looked at it and thought 'Oh thats good. It took me ages to get a cheap bedside cot'!

If you are interested in the Fabimax as well then the postage from German amazon is 14 eur and you have to order the 4th side separately, 27,90 eur:

I'm hiring the NCT bednest for £99- you can only extend the hire by one month past the 6 month agreement but not sure it would last any longer than that anyway tbh.

Baby bay cots are much cheaper in France and Germany than here (I think less than £200, instead of 300 in uk). My parents are in France a lot and i got them to get one delivered from French amazon and bring it back in the car. Not an option for everyone, I know, but if you knew someone over there...

damn I wish I'd known that before- was in France a few weeks ago! Smile

We just got a normal cot, adjusted it to the right height, whacked a couple of L brackets in and it was fine

Cost about £30 including the price of the second hand cot

I adapted an ikea one and used it from birth. Neither inhabitant has seemed bothered about the big space and it's meant far more sleep for me.

We've just had the BabyBay delivered today (from NCT Shop). It was just under £300 (which is a lot) but also includes a side to make it a stand alone crib if needs be and a mattress as well.

We were lucky that it was brought for us otherwise I'm not sure we'd have spent as much.

Delivery from amazon.de was about 7 euro and there was a currency conversion fee as well. All in I paid £127.42. I put the page through google translate (!) and checked any important words individually but it's really very straightforward, same process as amazon uk so easy to follow.

I like the baby bay, it's great that you can get it to exactly the right height for the bed even a very low one like ours. Downside is having to buy a funny shaped mattress and sheets - I got them from baby mattresses online rather than getting the official ones. Smile
