The heartburn has arrived. Iv taken two rennie's and its still awful. What do I do?? I am exhausted and desperately need a nap, but the minute I lie down its like I'm either going to throw up or drown in acid. Any tips would be so very gratefully received!!

Milk definitely helps. Also chewing gum worked for me because it produces a lot of saliva which slips down the throat and neutralises the acid for a bit. The mintier the better.

Get some gaviscon advance which will help. If that doesn't help the GP can prescribe Ranitidine.

If you need to sleep, try using more pillows to prop yourself up so you're not totally flat.

Second milk and gaviscon (liquid!)

Thank you so much. I'm 27+6, is it likely to get worse the closer I get to my due date?

I have it terrible still at 34+3 got ranitidine tablets from doctor really help, with milk and gaviscon! :)

Yeah it can get worse. As baby gets bigger your stomach gets a bit squashed sometimes forcing the acid upwards into your gullet which is what causes the heartburn. All you can do is symptom control really. I used to indescriminately swig the Gaviscon in the end. Some people need tablets called ranitidine which GP can prescribe. They make all the difference.

Ohno heffalump u jst reminded of the heartburn! It must have been somthing i blocked from my mind with my last pg cos it was so hellish, in fact was prob even worse than the vaginal varicose veins! (TMI)

Like one of the above posts said i used to walk round tesco GLugging gaviscon from the bottle but it never did much!

Maybe ask for ranitidine like someones suggested i know i will do if it recurs this time :-(

I guzzled Gaviscon. Milk helps too.

I remember my last trip away pre DC1 was Ruined by me forgetting to bring the Gaviscon

Check whether Rennie is OK to take. I have it in the back of my mind it's not, for some reason.

Sainsbury's sell their own ranitidine tablets. In a white small box saying indigestion relief on them. Such a brilliant thing in such a small box. Nothing else helped my heartburn until those.

You fantastic women, I had the milk and have just woken up from my nap. Thank you! If it gets worse I shall definitely look into this ranitidine.

I was vomiting mine was so bad, I got omeprazole from the gp and it was brilliant I didn't get heartburn/reflux anymore on it.

I had gallons of Gaviscon liquid - Peppermint flavour because I hate aniseed. It really helped.

Yes to milk also, that really helps.

I'm another omeprazole fan :) best acid relief ever !!

I found the milk helped at first but after an hour or so it came back worse as the milk turns from alkali to acid in your stomach!! The gaviscon is great instant relief but in the end I had to have the ranitidine from doc as that just stops it happening in the first place - prevention is better than cure if you ask me, as it was turning me into a right grumpy old cow!!

Mine has gone since I gave up drinking milk! My nutritionist advised against the milk actually as it can make things worse,

I'm on omprezole from the gp too. mine was so bad, don't get it at all now, so worth it imo!!

Thank you so much for all the advice! It seems to have calmed down a bit today, but if it gets lots worse I will pop to the drs and ask about medication. Thanks again :)
