Am I or the unborn baby at risk? I had chicken pox quite badly when I was a teenager...can I get it again or am I immune?

AFAIK you are immune now and you should be fine.

Theoretically it is possible to get chicken pox more than once - but as tumbletumble implies it is very unlikely - and much more likely that you are immune.

So technically I could get it again....I should call my midwife really then shouldn't I.

Just spoke to my midwife and she said I should be absolutely fine, so hopefully the unborn baby is okay.

Hi you can check if you are immune by getting your Ho to call the virology lab who checked your booking bloods. They will still have a sample and will be able to tell you today.

Thank you norem the MW said this was something they check at booking and said I was absolutely fine, but didn't ask my name or anything...is that because if I wasn't immune they would've flagged it up by now?

It's possible to get CP twice, but rare.

Your baby isn't at risk at all unless you catch it, and that's pretty unlikely.

Can shingles b a problem? I caught chicken pox as a child and in march i caught shingles. My gp said to avoid those with CPox as it could trigger another shingles episode

My gp and MW told me you can't catch shingles from someone who has chickenpox, but you can catch chickenpox from someone who has shingles (if you haven't had it before). Apparently shingles isn't as contagious as CP.

I got chickenpox in pregnancy when I was 19 weeks, and was told that had I been 20 weeks or further, they wouldn't have worried as much.

If you do get it, it's not as bad as catching it in early pregnancy, and baby should be fine!

Thank you don't hopefully being almost 33 weeks and having had it bad before should be a positive thing.

It is true you can't catch shingles from CP, and someone with CP can't trigger shingles in you again if you have had it already.
