Pre eclampsia

Hi ladies just looking for some advice and other peoples' experiences in relation to pre eclampsia. Am 33+5 with DD2 and when I saw my diabetes nurse today my BP was 173/89 then 170/102 and there was a trace of protein in my urine sample for the second time in a week. Obviously she was a little concerned and sent me up to the maternity assessment centre to carry out a BP profile. Baby was checked and all was fine and over the period of an hour my BP settled to about 149/89 on average. Now I know this is a little high but still 'acceptable' according to the midwife. They also did another urine sample which showed again a trace of protein. How likely are these mild symptoms to develop into full blown pre eclampsia? I am an insulin dependent diabetic who had pre eclampsia with my first.

I had pre-eclampsia with both of mine. The 2nd time it was much less severe and I was only hospitalised once. With DS I was in and out of hospital from 24 weeks. I was induced for both, DS at 37 weeks but was prepped initially for emergency induction at 31 weeks and DD 38+5. Are you taking medication for BP? I know the criteria for hospitalisation is when your bottom reading is 110 or above.

So to answer my own question, quite likely . Am writing this from hospital bed after being admitted! On labetolol at the moment which seems to be helping but baby is potentially going to be with us in the next week! Eeek

Good luck with keeping it under control - at least you are in the best place. Had similar with both mine. Emcs with no. 1, but elective with no.2, after I refused an induction second time round. Second CS much more chilled.

Good luck! I'm so glad you're in - I read your first post and thought "uh oh, how do I tell her to nag them to take it more seriously?" - so relieved to see you're in the best place!

Oooh... personally I don't like it when they admit you and say "you're not going home without a baby" and I'm all like "but I'm not ready "!

Hi ladies, little update.....
So the meds seem to be doing the job, bubs is quite happy and first steroid injection today so things are ok at the moment but she's very likely arriving by the weekend! Thank you for your lovely replies ladies glad to see I am not the only insomniac out there

I had it with my first, but not much was done back then apart from inducing me 3 days after due date. This time around they have given me asprin to take.

I had pe with both and wrote a similar post with ds. Mine started at 28 weeks with ds and I got to33 weeks ( in hospital ) with the help of labetalol and rest. Good luck

Hi ladies, just thought I would add a final update to this post to let you know how I got on. So I was admitted to the ante natal ward on Sunday 23/6 and put on labetalol which was having a positive effect on my blood pressure. I was being monitored regularly and so was baby and all looked well. I had a scan Monday afternoon which showed happy, bouncy, altho somewhat chunky (8lb 4 at 34 weeks) baby and a placenta that was functioning as it should. I was told again at this point that due to all the test results I would be remaining in hospital til I delivered and that it would likely be be c-section within the next 3-6 days.
However it was not to be so simple. During routine CTG on Tuesday morning 25/6 the midwife was unable to get a fix on baby's heartbeat. The SHO was called to bring the mobile ultrasound. He also struggled to locate baby's heartbeat initially and then when he found it, it had dropped to less than 90 bpm. A crash was called and I was raced down to delivery. I was very rapidly put under a general anesthetic and baby was born shortly after. Unfortunately she was not breathing and had no heartbeat. The paeds team worked on her for 16 minutes, she had several shots of adrenaline and was ventilated. Eventually they managed to bring her back and she was taken to intensive care. We were told it was an hour by hour thing and she very likely would not last the night. So as you can imagine we were devastated.
However it is good news, she lasted the night and was taken off the ventilator after 24 hours. She was moved out of ICU into high dependency 3 days later and then into SCBU 3 days after that and the unbelievably we were allowed to take her home on the 2nd July! We were told that there may be some brain damage due to oxygen starvation and so she had an MRI scan. This was totally clear which means there is no significant risk of complications altho there may be some developmental issues around milestones etc but we will face that when it arises.
So all in all we have been very lucky, somebody up there was looking down on us. We have a happy, (so far) healthy baby who by rights should not be here at all.

Oh my God, you were so lucky to be in the hospital. I had severe pe with ds and I don't think I really understood just how dangerous it can be until a long time after. Congratulations on your little miracle.
