Hi there! I have had a bad cold or flu for a couple of days (without fever) and my normally VERY active baby has gone really still & quiet. I am 26 weeks & 3 days pregnant. Normally he is constantly kicking very hard and today he has barely moved. My husband felt him a couple of hours ago but I havent and am worried. Is this just because I am so under the weather and I cant feel it? Anyone who can offer advice it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It's always importnat to get lack of movement checked out. Bypass your GP and call your labour ward direct.

I used the labour ward several times for unexplained pain (that turned out to be OK) and the only time I was ever 'told off' was when I delayed over a reduction in the movements. I thought it could wait 3 days until my regular AN appt - where I was told that it can't. I was monitored for a few hours and everything turned out to be fine.

I've no doubt that feeling under the weather can affect the baby, but it's just too important to delay.

Hope all turns out well.

Sorry, meant can affect the baby's movement, not its well-being.

BTW, feeling rough may simply mean that you're not as aware of the movements. It's one of the things they test for when they monitor you.

my dd moved less if i was ill/unwell, she just seemed to sleep more if things got too much. i would suggest ringing someone, just to reassure yourself.

thanks very much pretty candles & kickassangel -

I ended up phoning the midwife who said if I didnt feel anything in a couple of hours to come in and let her check for the heartbeat. I then rolled around on the floor! Seriously - for a while, trying to get him going and FINALLY I felt something. Not as much or as strong as what I am used to but definite movement so I guess being ill has made me less sensitive to him. It's so distressing though when you arent sure what is going on.

Thanks for your advice & concern - I do love mumsnet!
