I read this story www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22751415 the other day and thought, it would be so wonderful to be able to buy one of these boxes! I'm usually a bit of a google queen but I couldn't find anything out there. Does anyone know if you can buy them and if so, where? So gorgeous!

I emailed them and I've had a reply this morning

"Thank you for your interest to our maternity package. Since the maternity package is offered solely under the Finnish social security system, Kela is unable to sell it to foreign customers"

Shame. Never mind!

Hi best start,
my husband is obsessed with the finnish baby box. I keep trying to talk to him about practical things like moses baskets but he's insisting on a cardboard box... It would definitely be something we'd look at buying as long as the contents are practical and overall it's good value. We're expecting our first so starting completely from scratch.
Good luck getting your idea off the ground.

It also means all babies end up wearing the same clothes and everyone has the same stuff. Not that it matters much, I suppose, but it is a little boring. I'm just trying to find bad sides in this really, hehe - I'm an expat Finn and won't get a box. Envy

Then again I do think people make a silly amount of fuss about this sometimes. Someone even suggested I move to live with my parents for a while just to be entitled for it. Somehow I doubt the box is worth losing my residential status and all the other hassle...

Wow, that ebay one is just a (small) collection of Finnish baby stuff in a box for nearly 400 dollars + 250 dollars postage and customs. For that money I could go to Finland for a weekend and buy the things myself.

Would love one too. Did find an American site that sells their own version of them.

Even though the baby boxes are offered solely to Finns, you can actually buy one.
Everyone gets the box (or an amount of money if they choose to) and i.e. in cases mother has two babies with only a year or so between the births, those moms do not need the box and they are happy to sell unopened/new boxes.
You can buy one here www.facebook.com/pages/%C3%84itiyspakkaus-tarvitsevalle-Finnish-Maternity-Packages-Market/277208365742386?fref=t

I'm sure I read that Kate Middleton got sent of these boxes as a gift while she was pregnant with George!

Lucky thing, not that she needs anymore freebies I'm sure.
