Can you recommend a hypnobirthing cd please?

In preparation for DS1's birth I listened to the Maggie Howells Natal Hypnotherapy CDs.

They worked really well and helped me so much during my labour. I was able to stay calm and focus throughout, well, probably 53 of the 56 hours of labour.....

However I don't want to use them again because the music will remind me of that labour, which ended with emergency intervention, and was pretty scary during the last half day.

In fact I'm still not sure whether to go for an ELCS or try a natural labour again confused

Anyway - can anyone recommend some CDs? I don't want to spend £200 or so on the classes.

Thanks smile

Have a look for free hynobirthing workshops in your area. Mine offered a NHS intro course and came with a CD

Really, free? Wow, ok, will check that out. Thanks smile

Any other recommendations gratefully received, too.

Hmm no info on free workshops in my area. Loads of classes but none of them free...

There are two elements to the CDs - one for positive birth affirmations - I was skeptical at first but combined with listening a few times a week and sticking up the affirmations around the house (and the classes/books admittedly) I am feeling extremely positive about birth.
The other element is the practice relaxations for birth.
There is a Rainbow relaxation CD as well as a CD with affirmations on read by Marie Mongon which our teacher gave us. Both are good. I have also downloaded all the Katherine Graves stuff from the hypnobirthing website as I wanted some extra relaxations. All do the job and, I feel, have helped. Sorry for not being more precise smile

You can get some downloads through I tunes that aren't very expensive. I've been recommended mindful mamma

Hi. I've just been recommended the CD's of Marie Mongan and Danette Watson. Hope this helps

There's a practitioner called berkshire hypnobirthing or something similar and you can download tracks from the site. There's a track specifically for releasing fears which might be helpful for you xxx

Thanks all!

bogwoppit so is Katherine Graves good? There's a book + 4 CDs on sale for £27.

MakesCakes a track for releasing fears sounds perfect for me, thank you. I'm wavering from feeling ok about going for it, to feeling a wave of fear.

Did Marie Mongan develop hypnobirthing then? Is she the definitive hypnobirther? smile

yes and yes. Opinions are divided in the american accent of her CDs. I actually found it very warm and comforting after a couple of listens but it makes some people's teeth itch smile

at least the Berkshire one is English. listen to samples if you can? So important to not cringe when you're listening to a hypno cd. I had a mediation one being narrated by a guy with the strongest brummie accent I have ever heard. I just burst out laughing every time I heard it. utterly useless!

If you're really struggling with your fears it might be worth having a one off hypno counselling session type thing to see if you can work through that issue. Approaching labour and the newborn days is intense enough without the goats of your previous experience still haunting you x

That should be ghosts obviously. It would be even worse to be haunted by goats.

I loved the Marie Mongan one, the music was really relaxing and she sounds like my grandmother smile

Hehe MakesCakes - goats I think I could handle grin

Will investigate M Mongan. Grandmotherly tones sound luffly.

Katherine Graves is good but it took me some getting used to - she is rather posh sounding, but I find her voice soothing rather than grating now.
She wrote the English version of Mongon's hypnobirthing book and I have found it very useful. I downloaded the package you were talking about and have found it overall useful. The releasing fear relaxation is on there as well so might be helpful. Good luck x
