Can lupus develop in pregnancy?

Hi
I'm 10 weeks pg & have developed a tight prickly red rash across my cheekbones & bridge of my nose, also on my wrists.

I'm waiting on my blood results for 5th disease (slapped cheek) but my Mum thinks I may have lupus, which apparently runs in her family.

Although the rash only developed very recently, I have a long history of health issues nobody has ever fully diagnosed. They include:
*chronic migraine
*extreme light sensitivity
*hives when it's cold, severe prickly heat & blisters when warm
*constant back pain around my kidneys
*IBS symptoms (was investigated for IBS but results inconclusive)

Why would this just suddenly start during pregnancy though? I'm not sure my GPs will be very open to the possibility.

Has anybody else got this / did it appear during pregnancy?

Poor you! I really feel for you and hope it all goes well! Flowers

I was checked for lupus (wasn't confirmed) but was told it was quite possible for it to 'come to light' in pregnancy... And I was also reassured it is all manageable, and modern obstetrics deal with it perfectly well. There are also consultants who specialise in blood disorders, including lupus.

Hope someone experienced will come along with more information!

Any immunological things, like Lupus, are ripe to turn up in pregnancy when the immune system is repressed.
