So. I'm fed up of having twinges, being told baby is engaged and that I'm huge or too big for dates Angry. Have walked literally miles today up and down hills (back & legs didn't thank me for that), have been eating pineapple every day for weeks and taking raspberry leaf capsules, and tonight had a vindaloo & DH and I have DTD for the 3rd time this week. Any takers on ideas how long it will take for DC1 to finally make an appearance?!?! So desperate to get this baby out!!!!!!

How far along are you? If you're at the end then I wouldn't walk too much or do too much strenuous exercise that leaves you exhausted; you'll need that energy and power in your back legs for labour!

Try gently exercises that encourage the baby to come down more, like squats or swinging on a swing. Get on your knees in a crawling position and wiggle your bum. Sitting on a birthing or exercise ball and rocking is good too.

good luck!

I used my dd's space hopper when pregnant with ds because I was too stingy to buy an exercise ball Blush.

I'm 39+4 and spending a lot of time on the ball! Walking as well. It's all about getting the babies head to push on the cervix, so I have been told. As its head bounces on there it stimulates release of hormones.

Will get on the pineapple and curry too for good measure! Sex is good as the semen has prostaglandins in it. Though I have read somewhere these are better ingested!

Good luck! X

maryann I was told that too - however it is one theory I am not willing to try!!!!!

Will get to bouncing tomorrow, and will tell DH to keep his energy levels up....he's never been so "active" Grin

I remember this feeling (vividly)! It was a sweep that worked for me at 41+3....

In the meantime, what about a different perspective? After DD was born I was chatting to a random lady at a baby class and was reliving the final days of pregnancy and saying how frustrated/impatient I had gotten to meet my baby. She replied "not me! I really savoured those last days because I knew it would be the last time I had my baby all to myself and could enjoy them entirely without all the worry that comes with a newborn." (wasn't her first). I think that's such a lovely way to think about it, I'm determined to follow her lead this time!

I am due today.... Ate a pineapple last night, and walked around the garden. Might have to try bouncing on ball today. Dtd a couple of days ago and not sure I can face that again!!! This is my 3rd and I was early with my first two. Really hate waiting!

Pineapple does not work! Tried it with both DC and I ate tons of it. Curry doesn't work either. Sex doesn't work either. And don't get me started on flaming raspberry leaf! Sorry. Apparently walking up and down stairs repeatedly works. Not sure I would recommend that tho.

My recommendation is to sit back, relax, eat eat something nice and watch box sets. It will make waiting enjoyable. Plus once you baby arrives there will be no time for nice food, relaxing or box sets.

Areally hot curry works because the spices make you open your bowels and it is the "loose" bowels that can help start contractions. Caster oil supposedly does the same thing but I wouldn't try it.

Nipple tweaking is supposed to work too, and a nice glass of wine should work as you're more likely to go into labour if you're feeling relaxed

The thing I'm sure worked for me was spending a few hours cuddling my friend's newborn - I went into labour about two hours afterwards. The oxytocin from all those snuggles (as well as being around a breastfeeding mother) apparently tells your body it's safe to give birth as there's another newborn around.

Another friend triggered her labour through nipple stimulation. The midwife told her she had to to three hours of it though! It definitely worked, although I have no idea of what the actual technique is!

Good luck. I have to say I agree with one of the posters above that I'll just be enjoying those last days next time and getting in as much rest as possible before those crazy newborn days start again... Wink

Re: pineapple - a whole pineapple contains very little of the chemical, glycyrhizzin that acts as prostaglandin to soften the cervix. It's so little, that you'd have to eat about 8-9 pineapples for it to have any effect. I get a furry tongue after eating a few slices of pineapple, don't know anyone who could manage 8 whole ones!

All the DC1s I am aware of, including my own, were at least a week late! Since you asked my bet is 40+6 Grin

I know it is Angry to hear this but as the mother of a 6mo, enjoy getting some sleep and having a working fanjo

Well a few days on and still no baby. Have been feeling really PMT-ish the last couple of days, still loads of pelvic/vaginal pressure and yesterday my boobs started feeling sore...today I can't even think about putting on a bra! Very, very odd.

Good to get all the feedback. I'm beginning to wonder if the people that all these things worked for were perhaps coincidence, as nothing is proven. However I am going for nice walks every day and using the gym ball, so hopefully baby will get into my pelvis easier.

Relax, sit down, have a cup of tea, maybe some cake. Baby will come when ready, try to take it easy but i do appreciate how impossible that is when heavily pregnant and desperate to meet your baby. Have these Flowers Brew

I agree with Twenty. If you've tried all that activity and nothing is happening, put your feet up. You're going to need your strength when labour does eventually happen, so pick up a book, or settle down to watch a box set of something. Labour is very, very tiring, so you need to be as well rested as you can be.

Lol at Fakebook "you'll need your back legs"!

I like the idea of cuddling a newborn... A friend of mine is due a couple of weeks before I am so I'll be giving that one a go!

Hope baby gets out soon... I'm afraid nothing at all worked for me! Grin

I'd recommend a touch of denial (always did the trick for me)

And/or reflexology, which even if it doesn't trigger labour (I did go into labour with my first the evening after a session), it at least a very pleasant and relaxing way to spend an hour, and probably good for you in all sorts of other ways.

the other thing to do is to make lots of plans to do very nice things in the next two weeks, that's pretty much guaranteed to work

Haha well I've just finished baking and putting together food for a picnic tomorrow, we're going to an air show and meeting up with some friends there so if the logic works baby should come tonight lol! I hate sitting around, even if its watching tv or reading - feel so lazy - but I have been making myself sit down more.

Off to a friends for a vindaloo tonight so will keep you all posted Wink
