You can refuse to be induced, how far along are you?

Bigger supermarkets do it and health food shops :)

Do they have a 'cut off' point for when they really want dc out? Bouncing is meant to help even just on the edge of your couch/bed. Any light to medium exercise is good for motivating baby i'm super lazy so didn't

avoid castor oil all it does is make your tummy ache and give you the runs - any labour that happens after it is purely coincidental (i asked about ten nurses/midwives Blush )

IIRC you can get Raspberry Leaf tablets in Holland and Barrett.

A very spicey chicken from Nandos did it for me for DC3 (10 days over). I tried castor oil (but I was very timid) for DC4. I had acupuncture and she came the next day. (But I was 40 + 14 so I can't say what actually did it).

Speed bumps - I'm not joking.

My cousin's dad drove her over speed bumps at the speed limit (if no one drives, get a taxi) and I kid you not, she went into active labor that same day.

I tried dancing, cleaning the floors on my hands and knees, curry, speed bumps, sex, watched scary movies, drank every tea recommended. In the end I went into labor because I got angry and screamed at DH... have you tried screaming? Haha.

If you want your baby to be born naturally and asap, then ask the question:

What triggers a delivery?

It's a cocktail of hormones. How it exactly works is unknown, but what we do know is this.

Adrenaline has got a negative influence on this progress. Bright light, stress, exercise it all gives you a higher doses of adrenaline.

Oxytocin plays a big part in starting and during the delivery.
Here is a page that tells you all about it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxytocin

It's also called the love hormone.
Have a nice evening with your partner. Don't eat to much, but have some comfort food, dimmed light or candle light, soft relaxing music, a massage, sex and better would be if you'd have an orgasm, as this also gives you an higher level of oxytocin in your blood.

Basically just have a nice relaxing, romantic night with your partner. If you can end it with sex and for you an orgasm. That would be a nice extra bonus.

I hope that I didn't went to private there with my advice.

Best of luck!

Sylvia

I was induced at 38 weeks for medical reasons and none of the tricks worked for me when I tried to get it going beforehand. Think part of the problem is that if baby's not ready to come out naturally the tricks don't have anything to stimulate.
Good luck though.

I've just had a week of:

  1. Long car drive (4 hrs initially then about 1hr each day for 6 days) on windy, bumpy country roads

  1. Bumpy train rides

  1. At least 2 hours a day on my feet "sight-seeing"

  1. Lots of lifting (toddler on and off toilets all day long!).

All of this had me contracting every 5 minutes and kept me awake all night, and I'm only 30 weeks pregnant!

When I came home from my holiday I found that the contractions subsided massively.

Maybe some of that might get you going?!!!!!

Have read on here that being due for an induction helps, certainly did for me, was due to be induced on the Sunday and went into labour on the Saturday. Eventually gave birth 4 hours before I was supposed to turn up for induction.

Swore it was the pineapple, midwife said she think's there is something in it to. So maybe worth a try. Good luck with baby.Wink

My Pilates teacher swore by massaging the base of your big toe. There's a pressure point that triggers things.

Sex is the only one that works really, but anything that helps get the baby engaged and low down will help too (so the speed bumps, or bouncing on a ball might do it).

It's raspberry leaf tea btw. Raspberry tea will do bugger all. well. RLT will probably do bugger all too, but it's worth a shot :)

Apparently only 2 things are "proven" to work to bring on labour and that's eating loads of fresh (not tinned) pineapple and having lots of unprotected sex with dp ejaculating inside you. The hormone in semen and fresh pineapple is the same as the one they give you when they induce you...that's what my miswife told me anyway. Everything else is just old wives tales and nothing but coincidences apparently...

I was due to be induced and the night before I had a massive carvery dinner followed by a big slice of warm chocolate fudge cake and went into labour 6am in the morning,4hrs before I was due to go into hospital to be induced so perhaps there's something in the tale about knowing you're about to be induced could trigger natural labour! Good luck :)

A huge long walk, preferably up-hill. It worked for me, trouble is, you are knackered even before you go into labour. So realistically probably not the best idea.

Aren't you supposed to eat about 8 pineapples for it to actually have any significant effect?

Report
weeblueberry · 03/05/2013 18:24

Yep re: the 8 pineapples. And it's the same with the sex - the hormone they use to induce you has the 'sperm' in SUCH high quantities that you'd pretty much have to go at it every hour for about 4 days.

The only thing that's been 'proven' to work despite what people say, is a chemical induction. If anything else did, everyone would do it.

It's virtually impossible to say 'X works' because how would you know that you weren't due to go into labour that day/night anyway? Confused
