Hi, wasn't really sure where to put this.
My brother in laws niece was told today that she has scarlet fever. Iv not been in contact with the little girl but have been with him.

Iv read that it's not known to be harmful during pregnancy but to let your midwife know at the time of birth if you have been in contact with someone with scarlet fever.

I'm due in 4 weeks so could really go anytime now. Does anyone know anything about it?

When is it contagious?

Could I cat h it from BIL even though he's showing no symptoms?

My dd was also around him today, does anyone know how long symptoms take to develop after catching it?

Thanks to anyone who can help

sorry not a huge help

My husbadn, myself and 9 weeker caught this 5 days after our 5 year old started symptoms. It is very contagious but I dont think infectious till sympomatic.

First symptom is fever nad very very sore throat, penicilin is the treatment and we all were improving 12 hours after first dose of penicillin.

Pretty sure you cant pick up from someone not showing symptoms, think its passed on just like common cold.

sorry can t be more help!

the NHS webpage is reassuring, saying that there is no evidence that it harms your baby if you catch it during pregnancy. The incubation period is 1-4 days: has it been that long since BIL saw her? If longer and he has no symptoms, nthen he hasn't caught it.

Even if he was incubating and infectious, it's not certain that you would have caught it. But even if you had, it should be over well before EDD.

And although it used to be fairly serious, it's a much milder disease now (usually just sore throat and rash), so please try not to fret.

No he was with her thismorning but didn't find out until this evening after her mum had taken her to a walk in centre so wouldn't get it for a little while.

I'm hopeful that even if we do all catch it we will all be better by my due date
