Bleeding in early pregnancy

Hello Ladies

This is my first post on here and I only wish it was in happier circumstances!. I found out I was pregnant (following IVF) on Sat morning and then 3 hours later I started bleeding. This was fairly light and lasted a couple of hours and then nothing until this morning at 11am. Then I started bleeding again - red and fairly thin - quite light to start with but then heavy for about 30 mins then light again. I have spoken to a nurse and she said nothing they can do yet - I need to rest and possibly ring Dr in morning. She said it could be nothing but that it could also be a miscarriage. Any words of reassurance or similar stories ladies? Also, when I ring the Dr in the morning should I insist on a scan / blood test?

Thanks in advance,
A worried lady!
Ismaro x

Had bleeding last weekend a bit like this and we had convinced ourselves that it was over. Called early pregnancy unit as soon as they opened on Monday and they fitted me in for a scan that morning and we saw a heartbeat.

If you have a local early pregnancy unit would suggest calling them-we did after some MN advice without going through GP and they had no issue with us doing that and were more than happy to see us that day.

Everything crossed for you there is a happy outcome for you.

I have had bleeding every couple of weeks with this pregnancy and I am now 11 weeks and have seen babies heartbeat and it moving round. Think I am just going to have this throughout pregnancy.
Try not to worry (easier said than done I know) and call ur early pregnancy unit tomorrow morning and ask for a scan.
Good luck x

I'm 8 weeks, had a very heavy bleed at 6, had scan 3 days later then another 9 days after that and all ok. Had a smaller bleed 5 days ago and will be having another scan on Thursday to check all still ok. How far on are you? Crap though it is, there really isn't anything anyone can do, but if you're over 6 weeks you should be able to get booked in for an early scan.

Thanks for all the positive replies. I am only 5 weeks so I am not sure they will even do a scan this early- not that I know. Bleeding seems to have stopped again so I am praying that is the end of it and all goes well tomorrow. X

There's no point scanning before 6 weeks as there's nothing to see before then. Try not to worry too much - I've been where you are twice now, the result of the first time is snoring away in his cot with a death grip on his teddy, and there's no reason to think there's a less than good chance of my current pregnancy being fine! Take it easy x

Morning ladies..... - well I have spoken to the Dr this morning (I bled on Sat light for 1 1/2 hrs, then on Sunday from 11-6 - light most of the day except for one woosh (sorry if TMI!) and then this morning I have started spotting again). Anyway the Dr said basically there is no point being scanned until 7 weeks (I am 5) as she said even if we see a SAC you wouldn't know if it was viable until 7 weeks. I am not happy - 2 more weeks to wait - I don't know if I should have been more pushy and demanded a blood test/scan but the Dr's are supposed to know what they are doing! Any opinions? I am currently off work because of these phonecalls (there is nowhere private to call from work and no reception from my mobile!)However I may go in soon to try to keep busy. Arghhh again!!!!
xx
P.s. I cannot make an appointment at the EPU myself - it has to be done through GP. So frustrating!

As difficult as this might be, there really is no point in worrying. My pregnancy which ended in miscarriage had no signs and then the tiniest bit of brown blood. My pregnancy which had a first trimester full of gushes of bright red blood for hours and 3 suspected miscarriages produced my lovely twins. You really can't look for signs. It's a waiting game. Try not to panic and accept that whatever will be, will be. Hope your result is a good one!

I have rung the dr back and they have just given me a blood test and booked me in for another in 48 hours. Feel slightly better as at least something is being done and I'll know more before the scan. X
