Please tell me to get a grip....(27 Posts)
Soooo, I got a BFP over the weekend (a very faint one, and by my reckoning about 5 weeks since LMP). It's my fourth pg, although one was serious ectopic last summer resulting in tube removal. First since then. The only person who knows IRL is DH.
The problem is, although this is very much wanted, my overriding emotion at the moment is panic. It feels like everything is against this little one - the ectopic (what if it's in the other tube?), my recently diagnosed endometriosis, the fact that dd has just had what looked suspiciously like measles, although we have not had the result of the saliva swab back yet to confirm or deny it.
Even stupid things like the fact that I have just been treated for thrush and that says talk to your dr if you are pg (it was pessary not tablet as I am bf), the fact that I have not religiously been taking folic acid (this was unexpected as we have been trying for months with no joy because of the endo). And most stupid, I did a craft fair a couple of weeks ago selling some of my soap which has clary sage in it, which is still hanging around the house and is massively contraindicated in early pregnancy....
I just can't quite believe that the odds are not stacked against this one, mostly because of my actions. I am exhausted, ds does not sleep well and is still bf and dd is....er....lively! I don't get a chance to rest! I'm also on a strange diet for my endo, which is (I think) the reason why I managed to get pg this time in the end - I have only been on it for 2 months! But I don't really know how it will work with pregnancy.
I think I am getting myself a bit worked up! Someone find a grip for me and pass it this way! Ta.....
Awww sweetie i think you are winding yourself up a little too much!!
I am no expert but if the thrush treatment is safe for bf then chances are is safe for pg. I don't know about the clary sage thing so can't help.
As for folic acid. My pg was completely unplanned like never in million years expected as had been told for 17+ years that i couldn't conceive so never took folic acid in run up and due to hyperemesis only managed about a weeks worth once i did know. I am fine, baby is showing as fine at 20 week scan last month so can't see it has done any harm. Start taking now of you are concerned...some os better than none according to my mw.
As for the rest ring ur epu on Monday and explain the previous eptopic and ask for a scan to ensure egg sac etc is in the right place.
Good luck and sending hugs Xxx
Thank you - and massive congratulations on your pg! You must be over the moon after that amount of time. I hope it's smooth for you from here.
I will make an appt with the dr tomorrow and get the ball rolling. You are right, I think when I know it's in the right place and developing ok then I can relax a bit. Right now I feel like I have a bit of a knot in my stomach....
I think it's easy to talk yourself into thinking there will be problems, especially with your history. But the tube removal and endometriosis were both obstacles that you've got past - I have endo and although it took us nearly 2 years to conceive as far as I'm aware it should have no effect on the actual pregnancy. Many women don't find out until they are weeks down the line and so haven't taken folic acid - its much more common than you'd think, so I really wouldn't worry. Try focus on the positives and all the best of luck with this one.
Out of interest can I ask what diet you're on an if it helps with general endo pain? I've had it for nearly 10 years but haven't tried anything diet wise, would be interested to give it a go after baby here x
makehay thank you. Tbh at 24 weeks i am still numb to it all...shock i think!!
I also.suffer with anxiety and find that focusing on the practical things that are within my control helps. Like...
start folic acid now you know you are pg
Call ur gp to make an appt
Call epu to are if u can self refer or need Gp to do it
Make sure you know your lmp date etc
BabyHMummy - thank you for your help. A useful list of things to do, especially as I'm not thinking especially clearly!
Excited - endo is horrible, isn't it? I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and I am lucky as I have quite a mild form.... The diet isn't easy, but I have stuck to it for 2 months and it really has helped already (given that my worst pain was around ovulation time, and this was one of the biggest obstacles to becoming pg the fact that it has happened is amazing!). Essentially it aims to remove anything inflammatory, which includes refined (white) carbs and wheat, red meat, refined sugars, dairy, caffeine, alcohol - and anything that raises oestrogen, such as white meat and eggs (unless organic and free range) and soya products. It's amazing how much nice stuff you can still eat, and I think even cutting down rather than removing completely can help, although I went full cold turkey from the beginning (ouch! Sugar and caffeine detox was not fun...!).
Anyway, it's not for everyone, I know, but in my case it has meant avoiding hormonal treatment and has massively reduced my pain, discomfort and other symptoms.
Grip slipping a bit again.....went to the dr, who tested and said it was negative (I have issues with his bedside manner....). I tested again at home (overkill?! I didn't trust him, he had to read the instructions for the pg test stick!) with a clearblue, which said pregnant, 1-2 weeks. I had expected 3-4 as I think this is how far along I am. Soooooo, is this because it's not very accurate, because I didn't use the first wee of the day, or because my hcg levels are low and is this worrying?
Aargh - I really didn't stress this much with the other two....
Would guess that its cos its not first of the day. Do one in the morning and then see.
Ask to see a diff doc. Tbh mine basically told me the supermarket ones are more sensitive than the Gp ones so they don't retest cos chances of false positive are so slim.
<Deep breaths and meditation> I'm calmer now, thanks! I have requested a phone call with one of the other doctors. I think I'm just working myself up because of the ectopic - the dr said come back in two weeks if I still haven't had a period, but if it's in a tube again 2 weeks could mean the difference between losing it (and therefore total infertility) and not. My other one was 8 weeks and a very nasty one so I feel like I haven't got loads of time to find out and want a scan asap.
I'll see what this dr says, and test again (in the morning...!) in a few days.
Thank you for your replies!
makehay its totally understandable. I have never been pg before this one so i have no idea how ot must feel to lose it. I was told i was infertile so i do understand worry of that side of it though. All you cando s stand your ground. Test tomorrow morning and if necessary thrust the thing under the dr's nose to prove your point. If they still give you the brush off then ring your local hospital cos they will have an early pregnancy unit. Explain everything to them and ask of there is anything they can do this early to check if it eptopic or not.
Don't let them fob you of sweetie Xxx
Lovely second dr phoned EPAU and got me a scan for next tuesday. Feel a bit better now I know it's not a long wait. Thank you for sticking with me...crazy panicking lady that I am!
Yay for second Dr!!!!! Keep me posted on the scan Xxx
will do! My mum's now got me convinced it's twins....
Haha but dp spent ages teasing me about twins cos i was so ill!
I'd always joked that number 3 would be twins because I want 4 children and DH 3, so I said I would definitely get my way.....!
Well I'm in A&E with bleeding . I was told to come straight here because of previous ectopic, hopefully being seen soon. Gutted.
makehay - really sorry you are having this scare. Hope you get seen v quickly. It may be nothing; if it is something hopefully you can hang on to the fact you can get pg. Then I will be back to talk you through why all your worries are real worries but just worries - none of them problems. DS on 2.5hourly feeds tonight so will have to go back to sleep soon but hope other nightowls come along. And I'll be up in an hour or so with DD...sigh!
Scarecrow - sorry you are up at that hour, I too have night owl children, and can well believe that lack of sleep is considered an effective torture device! Thank you for your kind words, sadly it looks like the pregnancy is no more. I'm home again, they saw no need to keep me in, likely to be a chemical pregnancy. Am gutted, but pleased that the endometriosis diet has got me this far.
Currently eating nutella out of the jar with a spoon. Endo diet be dammed (just wait for the sugar crash....!)
Haha makehay enjoy it! Pg is hard enough without does on top!!!
I am scaring the Crap outta the dog with my new gym ball...physio recommended it to help with pgp
Pregnant no longer, so I need the emotional crutch of a jar of sugar....!
PGP is horrible, I feel for you - I loved the gym ball. It's also really comfortable kneeling on the floor draped over it (good for positioning baby as well). I used to watch tv like that!
Hun i am so.sorry i must have miss that post. Sending huge hugs Xxx
Thank you. Best if luck for you for the next few months!
