Pregnancy

19 weeks today and *still* can't feel anything :-(

Expecting dc1 and at 19 weeks today I still can't feel a single thing... no butterflies, swimming fish, wiggly worms, random flutters, tummy rumbles or miscellaneous sensations... I'm trying to be patient and have my 20 week scan in 9 days time so don't see the point in bothering the midwifes but I am starting to worry a wee bit to the point that I am feeling a wee bit teary at times.......

Is anyone else the same? Or was the same?

Thanks for reading....

I'm 17 weeks and haven't felt anything yet. my mw said its normal to not feel anything until later on even maybe 22-23 weeks. I know that doesn't make waiting any easier though!! I can't wait!!

I didn't feel anything with DC1 until just after 21 weeks. It was well after my 20 week scan. All of a sudden I felt a lurching feeling in my tummy (the kind you get when you go over a bridge on a bus).

Thanks roo... it's really just from the point of view that there's no way of knowing if everything's ok 'in there' ... I guess we just need to have faith that all is ok until our next scans eh..... or the flutters and kicks appear!! :-)xxx

I was more like 24 weeks as the placenta was at the front. At full term I still didn't feel loads, especially in comparison to others. Bit rubbish but can't be helped!

Hi gilly, please don't worry - I was exactly the same with dc3 (am 25 weeks now) and it concerned me too as everyone says you feel the flutters earlier when it's not your first child. However at my scan I found out my placenta is lying at the front and is cushioning the movements so it was at least 22 weeks before the movements were strong enough to feel.

I'm another one with a placenta getting in the way of little wriggler feelings! I think I was at about 20 weeks when I felt something, and then I wasn't sure if it was just my guts. At the 20 week scan, little monkey was doing squat thrusts, somersaults and strange yoga poses which I couldn't feel, but which reassured me that what I was feeling probably wasn't just gas moving around :). I'm now 23 weeks and notice a LOT more movements but even now they're not that strong and my poor husband who is desperate to share feeling the movements with us can't feel them with his hands on my belly, despite my frequent shouts of "there! Did you feel that one?!". Unhelpful apparently.

Also, if I'm busy I tend not to notice them because they are quite random, so earlier this week I had a day at work when I felt no movements at all, not even during my one hour commute, came home in quite a state, cried my eyes out at aforementioned poor husband, who after many hugs and loveliness went to make me a cuppa and Peanut instantly started dancing.

So the point of that ramble was to say please try very hard not to worry about not feeling anything yet, it certainly doesn't mean anything is wrong. Not worrying is not a strongpoint of mine, though (ref previous story!) so I'm being a massive hypocrite, and totally understand how much easier that is said than done :).

Hi gilly I was 22 weeks and 2 days before I felt anything so here's time yet. My placenta was posterior at my scan so that wasn't to blame. On the plus side, when I felt movement it was unmistakeable, I knew right away it was the baby. I am 25 weeks tomorrow and the movements have progressed really quickly and got much stronger, I can feel them all over and see my belly moving so it will likely be the same for you.

It was the strangest feeling at my 20 week scan seeing my baby wriggling about so much yet not feeling anything, I just had to be patient. The sonographer was shocked I couldn't feel it!

Good luck for your scan.

Hi, just wanted to say try not to worry, easier said than done i know!! Smile I'm 19+1 today and like you have felt no kicks/movement. I don't want to say I have when I haven't so am waiting to be absolutely sure! We heard the heartbeat last week and have 20 week scan in 10 days. Can't get over how the worrying is constant!! I'm sure everything is absolutely fine and before you know it your baby will be wriggling and kicking all the time ?? xx

I'm 23 weeks now with my first and it's only really in the last 2 weeks that I've started to feel movement. Tis a very weird sensation as its not something I'm used too! :)

19 weeks here too. No movement yet and no firm bump, just more and more soggy flab on my stomach.

Another one here that felt nothing until around 23 weeks. I was really concerned but everything was fine. You will probably be amazed at your 20 week scan that they are wriggling away and you can't feel a thing!!

I Wasn't convinced til 24 weeks with DD - had an anterior placenta. Try not to worry too much

I felt the first tickles around 21 weeks. Have low- lying placenta - not sure if that is anything to do with it being quite late. Now 25 weeks - just started feeling proper kicks! Try not to worry and good luck with your scan.

It was more like 22 weeks for me, and I had twins in there!

Try not to worry. It's not long until your scan, and then it won't be long before you're losing sleep with all the kicking :)

I felt movement moving at about 17/18 weeks with my first pregnancy, but not until about 21 weeks with my second, even though you're supposed to feel them earlier the second time. It all depends on how the baby is laid, where your placenta is at and how much amniotic fluid you're carrying.
I'm assuming you've had midwife check ups and heard the heartbeat, she would've suspected straight away if something was wrong :)

I first felt movement the evening after my 20 week scan, so don't panic. It felt like someone was flicking me from the inside, quite strange. Now whenever I sit quietly i'm getting gently booted in the stomach/bladder/belly button. Don't stress, you will feel something in the next few weeks.

bentley - same here! first few flutters were really light. mine were always at night at first when sat quietly. from last week babys kicking and rolling around on and off morning til night lol. little monkeys also having the occasional dance on my bladder, very strange indeed esp when you have near full bladder! going for my scan on wed, though im 22 wks already, my hospital is ridiculously busy!

i felt faint rumbles from about 20 weeks and now at 27 he's kicking all the time! I too was told at 20 weeks I have anterior placenta - very common and in this case usual not to feel anything until 21/22 weeks plus. I have one friend who felt nothing until 24.

I missed the whole butterfly/fluttering stage don't know whether it was first and can be mistaken or what. I didn't feel a think until I was almost 22 weeks and it was a definite kick, now getting good aims at bladder and ribs no missing them!

I had my 20 week scan on Friday. All good, little baby girl moving around, posterior placenta. But nope. Couldn't feel a thing. It really is the only thing I enjoy about pregnancy so I'm pretty grumpy about it!

I had my 21 week scan and still felt zilch (front facing placenta). At the scan I just couldn't believe that the wriggling baby on the screen cod be inside my tummy. I felt totally disconnected as I could SEE so much movement - and yet felt ... nothing.
This changed a week or two later. I remember feeling a bit upset at the scan as I couldn't get excited. My DP was more excited than me. I kept asking myself: "If that baby is moving so much, why can't I see him?".
DS is now 5 and lovely.

I felt nothing until 22 weeks (anterior placenta). I was convinced something terrible had happened.

She's now 2 weeks old and currently fast asleep on my tummy :)
