Please tell me I will lose this baby weight(26 Posts)
Am trying so hard not to let it get to me but I'm struggling so much. I'm 29weeks and have gained 2 stone. Severe spd from about 18 wks onwards has left me pretty immobile and the weight has piled on. From someone who used to be super active and slim I've gone to someone completely uncomfortable with my size and inactive. I'm so scared that after my baby is here I won't be able to get the weight off and it's really getting me down :-(
You will lose the baby weight
But you will probably have to make some effort to do it (ie consciously try to exercise and not comfort eat too much).
But! You also need to take care of yourself post birth - let yourself recover and don't try to lose weight too quickly or you'll end up knackered.
Breast feeding helps if you can/want to do it, but it's not an excuse to eat what you want to (I know from experience as I put all my weight on post birth!)
You have 10 ish weeks to go - it's not forever and you are growing a baby so try to put that in your mind when you look in the mirror.
You will! Try to enjoy your pregnancy. There really is plenty of time once you're settled with the baby.
Breastfeeding and daily walks with the pram would be my recommendations.
Forgot to say, have a look at what mummy and baby classes are near you. Or get some postnatal exercise DVD's and a good sling ready. Babies make excellent weights to help with squats and lunges, as well as good walking companions.
Of course you will lose the baby weight if you want to. Those of us who haven't just haven't put the effort in! or aren't blessed with the losing weight easily gene .
It is far more worrying that it's really getting you down. Please mention this to your GP or midwife if it beginning to affect your mental health.
I am pregnant and used to be super active, and while i've not had the problems you have and I am doing some exercise, I am still very inactive compared to before.
I honestly don't know what will happen with my weight. But I DO know that I will be active again, and fit again. I know that I will walk with the baby outdoors, and go to buggy bootcamp and I'm looking forward to starting C25k as soon as I get the medical go-ahead to get myself back to 5k running fitness at minimum.
Focussing on doing those things, the things I can control, makes me feel ok about the weight and shape of my body which I cannot control quite as much.
Is this your first? With DD1 I went from being very very active (spin, yoga, running etc-x5 a week) to nothing as I was so tired. Put on 3.5/4 stone by the end (gave up weighing self) but - and maybe because I had been so for the whole decade before I had her - the weight dropped off within four months. Admittedly the first six weeks after she was born were tough - so I really went for it exercise wise after post natal check up. Need not have done! Within six months I was half a stone lighter than Pre pregnancy. I looked really gaunt too. Enjoy your pregnancy - this time round (DC2) I've been so sick I lost weight at the beginning. At 38 weeks I'm 2 stone heavier. Things stabilised a bit after 32 weeks as there was so little room to stuff myself. So don't fret!!
I stopped weighing myself at 32 weeks because I was close to 4 stone on.. Ds is 6 months and I'm 9 lb lighter than I was getting pregnant. Slimming world and gym. Worry about being healthy and getting baby here safe, the rest an be achieved afterwards
I had some relationship spread before having my son. Then put on 2 stone during pregnancy, got upto 13 stone at end of pregnancy, after having my son, and breast feeding got down to 10st pretty quickly about 6 months, lost just over another stone over the next year as I took my son out for a walk every day, and actually ate better than before as I was being very fussy about how healthily he should eat and realised I should do the same.
I didn't try to loose the weight t just happened, stay active and be a good example to your LO and I am sure your weight will come off.
Thanks everyone. Yes it is my first and I was running 10k's and at the gym about 4 times a week before. Am planning on getting to the gym as soon as I've had the all clear after birth. I've just been so shocked that I've gained it so easily! I am eating more but lots of v healthy stuff I haven't been eating loads of crap. Just feel completely out of control of my body.
It's hard to lose control of your body if you're used to being fit and healthy isn't it? My DH and I are both extremely active people. I've never been stick thin but before I became PG I was happy with my body as I was fit and very toned. We always cook our meals from scratch, which are always hearty and healthy, but I would indulge (life would be very boring if you didn't).
16 weeks into my pg and I have back fat!! BACK FAT!! And I can feel my whole body wobbling as I walk up and down the stairs. I had terrible nausea for 6 weeks (but no sickness) and the only thing that helped was eating! During that time, I also couldn't exercise. Even taking the dog for a walk would give me a splitting headache.
Now, I'm back to exercising (very low impact) for 30mins, 3-4 times a week and I'm walking the dog again (which he's ecstatic about). However, I'm eating like a horse and not burning enough calories to counteract this so I just have to accept that as long as I can do what I can now, when the baby is here, my appetite will go back to normal and I can really start pushing myself exercise wise again.
Try and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, and if you really want to go back to your pre-pregnancy weight, you will. I promise.
I put on four stone when I was pg with DS1. Within four months of his birth I was down to a size 12 (was a 10 before). Kind of stabilised at size 12 but wasn't doing any exercise other than walking and keeping active.
Now I'm pg with DS2 and determined to get back to a 10 in the year after his birth.
But will definitely not rush it or worry about it. You will lose the weight, give yourself time though - a year or so
You really will lose it. My DD is 12 weeks and I'm within a couple of pounds of where I started, though less toned and not happy with my stomach yet (it's not back to where it was but you can only tell if you know me well). About half came off in the first fortnight and the next quarter by 6 weeks with the remainder coming off more slowly. I haven't stinted on the cake but I have walked a lot and now do buggy fit and pilates.
2 stone by 29 weeks is a very reasonable, healthy weight gain. Don't worry about it.
You will lose it. I put on 3 stone and was enormous! After 4 weeks I was back in my 'fat' jeans and by 10 weeks back in size 8. I breastfed and are what I wanted but I did do Pilates and walked everywhere with pram. It will come off though so just eat and enjoy yourself and your baby once he/she arrives
I've put on 2 stone at 25 weeks... it's worried me a bit as that's what I put on during my entire first pregnancy... but I'm still in the same size maternity clothes and just have to trust it will come off later. I think I've also got a lot of fluid in my bum and top of my legs. It's amazing what can be adding to the weight besides fat and baby. I wouldn't worry too much and give yourself a lot of time after the birth before you address it. Enjoy your baby and there will be plenty of time later on to sort it out
You will lose the weight,
but you might want to take some time to prepare that your body does change after a pregnancy and birth.
I don't mean that to sound patronising, I freaked out when my post birth belly was just a flap of loose soggy skin - it horrified me.
It took a while to feel truly comfortable with myself and get my body back from a pregnancy, but exercise really helped.
The snuggly newborn helps too
Of course you'll lose the weight, but don't get disheartened if it doesn't drop off the minute your baby pops out! With dc1 it took me a year and by 15 months I was lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. With dc2 I just went down to lighter than my pre pregnancy weight with him after 14 months thanks to horrendous morning sickness and various illnesses with dc3. I lost 5kg in 2 weeks because of morning sickness.
I think i had put on exactly the same as you at this point. 11 weeks on and weight is gone and beautiful baby remains! I breastfeed so need to be careful but not really careful! I have not exercised but have walked every day because I enjoy it. I do need to tone but have not bothered with this yet. Remember its all worth it and enjoy your baby when they arrive and don't be hard on yourself.

Clarabell I have the same fears as you, have always been slim, very active, exercise 3 times a week, healthy eater etc. this pregnancy has seen me stop all exercise (docs orders) and just waiting to hear when i can start a bit of yoga and swimming. but yoga and swimming is hardly going to replace proper cardio 3 times a week!
the longest i have ever not exercised for before was about a month, and it was hell getting my fitness back afterwards. by the time the baby comes/i've recovered/have any time it will probably have been a full year with no proper exercise. eurgh.
I know it's for avery good cause, it is just very hard to adjust to being a non moving fattie when you've lived your whole life staying in good shape, being active and trying to have a healthy lifestyle.
i am taking comfort from feedback here that i will get my old slim and fit self back at some point!
Hi - all I can say to all those of you worried about not getting your fitness back. I fyou want to - you will. I actually quite enjoyed the challenge of doing work outs after six months of doing nothing. It was good for me and made me appreciate what my body had done and what it was capable of. I started 6 weeks after DD was born, had an exercise bike in the garden and would put DD in her pram - when she napped I would do 30 minutes on the bike with my iPod. Progressed to doing runs with the pram (i've got an Out and About with a wheel that can be fixed, was thinking of getting a Baby Jogger but this seems great). I then bought the Tracy Anderson DVD and learnt the dance moves, which again I did when DD was napping. Within four months I'd lost most of the weight. I re joined the gym when DD was six months old and started doing spin and stuff again - along with pilates and yoga. When she was nine months old I had lost weight and more - too much so. You can do it, and you can enjoy your baby. I felt so much better as a mum and person generally - to be doing that bit of exercise!
clara I suffered severe SPD in my second pregnancy so you have my sympathies. When it started this time at 12 weeks I went to a private Physio who specialises in women & pelvic pain and she corrected me. She says you can be treated for SPD up to 40 weeks. NHS Physio told me nothing can be done but she fixed me. Not sure if this is something you can consider but best £50 I have spent.
I feel the same. 28 weeks and feel massive. Have SPD too and I find sleeping with a soft pillow under my hip helps. Am trying to remind myself it's not long to go but so miserable every morning trying to decide what to put on as feel so fat! I'm sure we will feel like it is worth it in the end though!
