Anyone had a Pregnancy Unknown Location?

chickenwings · 15/05/2006 19:59

I am supposedly about 6.5 weeks pregnant (thought not sure about dates). Started having cramps on Thurs and bleeding this morning. Went for scan and they could not find pregnancy. Apparently this means (a) I have miscarried already (b) it is an ectopic pregnancy (c)the pregnancy is too early to show up.

The bleeding has now almost stopped and has been quite light but I still have stomach cramps and feel sick.

I have to have some blood tests taken and get the results on Thurs. This is going to be an agonising wait.

Advice and support please

poor you, i had early scans with both pregnancies, with this one i was 6+4 and they could find the pregnancy, but it depends on the skill of the sonographer. ectopics are extremely painful i believe. Try and wait till you blood results, the hormone levels are a good indication of how things are. take care. xx

friend had exact same thing happen a few years ago, finally at 7weeks they used an internal scanner an the litle thing was still in her tube, finally came down and planted into her womb a few days later

Had a similar experience with first baby - nothing on scan, agonising wait while blood tests were taken. A scan a week later showed the sac,and two weeks after that a fetal heartbeat. Hang on in there chickenwings. x

good luck with this chickenwings. I had similar last year and sadly mine ended in miscarriage. my baby couldn't be seen on the scan at 7 weeks and i was told the same three scenarios you have been given. i had the blood tests every other day to monitor how the hormones were altering. they gradually went down and it was then comfirmed the baby had gone. i was so scared by the possibility of it being ectopic that in the end i was glad(so not the right word) that it was over.
all i can suggest is to rest as much as you can, but don't necessarily lay in bed - my midwife explained to me that when you lay in bed the blood all passes at once when you get up and looks more dramatic and worrying - if you move around gently this doesn't happen.
and try not to worry (impossible i know)
thinking of you - let us know how you're doing if you can Smile

i think that the bllod tests will need to be repeated in 48hrs to get a proper idea if it is a viable preg.
try the ectopic trust website to see the details, but IIRc you need 2 samples to be taken 2 days apart..

Thanks for all your kind messages.
Still bleeding on and off so not looking too hopeful. I have my second blood test tomorrow so should have a clearer idea of what is going on by Thurs. Trying to stay positive.

I bled very early on in this pregnancy. I had 3 scans very early and it was a 'pregnancy of unknown location'. On the 4th one they waited another 10 days and then got the sac and even the heartbeat.
It was an agonising awful time (it started on Christmas Eve!!!).
GOOD LUCK!+++++

sorry to hear you're going throught htis. yes, if it were ectopic you would likely have had serious pain - not just mild cramps. how bad were they?

to diagnose ectopic they have to take serial bloods to review the rate of rise of the pregnancy hormone. the results will also indicate whether a m/c is more likely.

good luck

Although I went in for the blood test this morning, I know I have definitely miscarried now. Feeling rather sad as this is the second time in a row.

Thanks for your message amber5 - very touched that you remembered today.

Bye

Aaaghh. I have now spoken to the EPU about my results. They are inconclusive because my pregancy hormone levels are low but have not decreased significantly. I have been bleeding heavily for the last 2 days but this has now stopped. I am certain that I have had a miscarriage but I now have to have a further blood test on Monday before they give me the results on Tuesday. I can't bear it.

this is also similar to what i had - my hormone level decreased very slowly and it was two weeks before they finally decided it was definately miscarried. It's just torment isn't it? if you know in your heart that it's gone try not to let these tests mess with your head. I seem to remember that they need to be sure all the 'tissue' has gone or else they may want to do some kind of procedure to clear it. hope it doesn't come to this for you.
thinking of you still Sad

I so hope you are not experiencing a ectopic, but please, please be aware of all the symptoms.

I had one last year, dull period type aches for a number of days, then woke with severe pain, running to the loo, feeling faint and clammy. Pain then went into a pain like sitting on a needle, then pains in my shoulders, the pains in the shoulder indicate internal bleeding.

I am sorry if I am scaring you, but it is so important that you act upon any of these symptoms. I ignored most of mine, but fortunately soemthing was done in the end, I came close.

Last thing I want to do is upset you, I hope everything turns out fine for you Smile
