I can't speak from personal experience. But I've heard stories such a couple who could not conceive for years and decided to adopt. They were very happy with their adopted child and low and behold the wife gets pregnant shortly after naturslly and they going on to have a healthy baby :)

Hi blindkitty My DH and I tried for 2.5 years we had been diagnosed
With Unexplained infertility. I was on the brink of depression really desperate. We started down the road of private IVF and 10 days before we were due to sign the final consent forms I discovered I was pregnant - I am now 10 weeks and due my scan on 29th April. To me it is a miracle one I still cannot quite believe. Please don't give up I know you must be going through hell but have hope miracles do happen. I wish you all the best and hope I've helped you a bit.x

We tried for 2 years after a miscarriage for DD, decided to stop and I was pregnant that month. Had 3 miscarriages following DD only to decide to stop trying once again after 3 years and I was pregnant the month after my last miscarriage. I know that's not much help but there were some other things that may have helped as listed below:

  1. Had Vit D levels checked found to be severely lacking. Took a course to get levels up and managed to get pregnant (even if some of them ended in miscarriage, this one has been textbook and problem free).
  2. Charted using Ovusoft and OPK's so got to know my cycle pretty well.
  3. Got partner to wear loose boxers and not sit with his laptop on his lap as I read that it kills sperm.

I'm not sure if any or all of those things helped but it's worth a go and if all else fails and you do decide to stop trying there is always still a chance.

Good luck I know how hard it is but miracles do happen.

Just my GP. They might put up a bit of a fight because so many people will be Vit D deficient at this time of year but it is worth asking. I had some symptoms which helped me explain my case such as tiredness, muscle weakness and depression but to be honest I had quite an extreme case by the time they caught it. Hope that helps.

If you are interested there is useful information on Vit D and fertility on the Internet. I'm fairly convinced it helped me as I went from not being able to get pregnant to getting pregnant 3 times within a year since sorting out my levels. Not sure why I had miscarriages but I am 39 now and truly believe that age has a big effect on egg quality so with the last one I was just healthy enough and a had a good egg at the same time.

Probably not a helpful post here Grin...

Unexplained secondary infertility with Exh for 5 yrs, referred for IVF, didn't have as we divorced. Fast forward two years, new man (toyboy!) and pregnant accidentally while on pill (!) which I was just getting over the shock of when it sadly ended in mmc :( then 6 months later another pregnancy and am now 23 weeks at almost 40yo.

So as I say not an entirely helpful post unless you want to get yourself a toyboy ;)
Good luck to you.

I was never actually diagnosed as infertile but have pcos.

I was with my ex for 3 years, didn't ever use protection and never even came close to being pregnant. He already had 2 dc and after we broke up he got his new gf pregnant within a month of dating. This obviously rang alarm bells to me!

In my wild single years between him and my dp, I had a few drunken nights where I may have forgotten to use protection (I know, I know!!) and again nothing.

Me and dp have been together a year and from about 1 month of being together we stopped using contraception, mainly because I was convinced I couldn't get pregnant and we decided that although soon it wouldn't be the worst thing to happen.

I'm 12 weeks pregnant now!

I had unexplained IF. My test results were actually brilliant forum age (36) and within the realms of 'optimal fertility.' Partners results were also fine yet we couldn't get pregnant for love nor money.
After 2.5 years of ttc we had IVF and it worked first time and we got twins. There is of course hope but you might need a bit of help. iVf has excellent success rates with unexplained. Most people with unexplained i think get there in the end. Lots of luck.

Brilliant 'for' age 36 I meant! That looks really boastful readinb back of course my brilliant eggs were actually really crap as they did fuck without medical intervention!

We had been TTC for 2yrs and were starting down the road of fertility treatment. It wasnt unexplained exactly as I have pcos but while waiting for the 2nd appt I fell pg! Now 10+1.
The only thing I did different that month from all the others was to take a high strength vitamin b complex and a high strength dose of selenium (I think 100 or 200mg?) could just be coincidence but maybe not?
Good luck op

Not personally, but I have a close friend who tried for years, adopted three kids, never conceived despite using no contraception for 14 years, then got pregnant just before her 40th birthday. Now has 3 adopted kids + 1 biological 3 yr old!!

My parents were trying for 9 years, then they got me! A year later mum was pregnant with my brother! It also took both of mum's sisters many years to conceive, with both not having first babies until in their 40s.

Not so much unexplained IF but more every problem under the sun IF which has a happy ending. DH and I started trying 6 years ago and after 1.5 yrs of no joy went to IVF clinic to be told we'd NEVER conceive naturally due to swimmer problems. Its a long story but 3 cycles gave us one ectopic pregnancy and we gave up and decided to enjoy life as 2. I then started to get pregnant but miscarried over and over again, it was heartbreaking. Tried every medical and alternative treatment I could find and now have DD of 18mths and am 33 weeks with number 2. I will be forever grateful to God, the universe, whoever for having DD as she healed all the hurt of the miscarriages and pray that DC2 arrives safe and well. Also need to add I was 40 having DD and will be 42 having DC2. All I can say is never give up and be proactive about what you try becuse as you can see from us doctors and therapists give you their opinion but they are not God so might be wrong. Best of luck, its a tough and lonely road to travel but you have every chance of a happy ending .......Smile

I had unexplained infertility for 10 yrs and I am now pregnant - with a different partner. Ex and I adopted (his sperm was premiership quality apparently - so always assumed it was me!) but separated last year, maybe we were biologically incompatible?

15 yrs of infertility....docs said it was down to DH and poor sperm. Adopted a child 6 yrs ago. Lost 4st a couple of years ago and took up running. Then, well, you guessed it - I became fat again. DD is 1 next week. I believe that being as physically fit as poss and to have an average BMI is important. DH took up cycling, was fit too when the miracle happened, so sperm issues probably rectified themselves IYSWIM.

Unexplained here too, passed all the tests with flying colours despite my advanced years (38) but my body stubbornly refused to cooperate and conceive. Probably not quite what you want to hear as natural BFPs are more encouraging news, but I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant with a frozen embryo after one IVF cycle.

Me and dp were ttc for 3 years. Both of us had dc from previous relationships. Nothing. Stuck us both on multi vitamins as we had a run of colds and bugs, gave up ttc and found a new pony to buy.

Bfp and I'm currently 16 weeks.

Good luck. Try vitamins etc and start looking for a pony lol.

TTC with DH for nearly three years, had all the tests and both no problems. Had an appointment to discuss next steps, and went away to think about to IVF or not.

Cancelled follow up appointment as got BFP, so half way through!

Good luck, it does happen
