Sinusitis misery in pg - please help...

For the last week and a half I have had awful sinus pain. I have seen as much thick green snot before in my life, I also have pain in my ears and teeth? When I lean forward I feel like my head will explode and my eyes will fall out. And I have a constant headache.

I cannot breathe through my nose at night so wake up with a horrible Dry Mouth. Paracetamol and Steaming help temporarily, but I have read that olbas oil is a no no? (am 18 weeks)

I have seen eucalyptus crystals in boots- has anyone tried them?

Any other advice? I am back at work (teacher) tomorrow after 2 weeks off and don't know how I'm going to cope with feeling this awful :(

Lots of antibiotics are safe in pregnancy. I took my usual long term ones (immune problems) throughout my two pregnancies with no problems at all. Get thee to a gp !

Get to the doctor for antibiotics - I was told if it wasn't better in a week I'd need them, so sounds like you've battled on long enough. You have my sympathy - it was hell. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Poor you- I really sympathise. I suffered really badly with DC1. I found a netti pot really useful for clearing out. Made me feel human again. But you have to be very careful with keeping it clean. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi OP, I had to go to the doctors and get antibiotics with this a couple of months ago. GP actually told me to steam without any menthol as it is drying and was making things worse. Drink LOTS of water and sleep propped up with the window open. Hope you feel better soon xx

Definitely antibiotics!

Try sterimar saline nasal spray. Like a neti pot pot but less faff.

Saline spray. The sort you can use on newborns. I think Calpol make one. Instant relief!

I sympathise. I suffered for a week about 3 weeks ago with the exact same problem. My gums were itching and swollen, headache and also had the dry mouth coupled with a horrible taste. I also had severe ms kick in at the same time.

I suffered for 2 days and had to go to the doctor on the third day because I just couldn't cope anymore. They gave me antibiotics and the sinus infection cleared up in 2 days or so. I also inhaled steam twice a day which helped clear out the gunk stuck in the sinuses. The nurse told me that it's the heat that helps clear it so its not necessary to use things like Vicks or menthol.

I'd try to take time off work. If you feel half as bad as I did you're going to need to really sleep it off until you feel better again. Keep hydrated too; cloudy lemonade helped refresh my dry mouth.

You can definitely get Stérimar at Boots and quite often at smaller pharmacies and I really recommend it, but if you have an infection you should see your GP ASAP for antibiotics and use the spray for comfort.

Saline spray, Vicks, maybe humidifier, maybe vaporiser. I suffered horribly with DD2.

Huge sympathies, I'm just coming out the other side of this (am 39wks & want it gone before labour!). Mainly had it on 1 side-I thought it was a wisdom tooth problem at first. Hadn't expected the teeth pain! I didn't go to drs,but found heat really helped-i held one of those microwaveable wheeties against my ear/jaw. I would say get thee to a Dr,I'm still debating whether to as I can't kick it. Hope you feel better very soon.

I was same at 36-39 weeks preg and really worried about not being able to breathe during labour. Def go with antibiotics, heat pack for face and reg paracetamol. Only real (temporary) relief I was in v hot shower, cleared my nose/ sinus better than steaming. By the time I went into labour I felt more normal and hear/ steam of birth pool helped! I am teacher too, def don't go back to work tomorrow! Hope you feel better soon.

Get a sinus rinser - I have a NeilMed Sinus Rinse (on amazon), best £10 I ever spent
Comes with saline sachets to make a salty solution that you squirt up your nostril and the water (and gunk) comes out the other.

It is AMAZING - disgusting but amazing. It really helped my sinuses after they were blocked for weeks. I now use it when I feel a sinus cold coming on and it seems to make it go much quicker now.

Yes get a Neilmed sinus rinse you can buy in boots though sounds cheaper on amazon. It's great . Also put Vaseline on inside of nose and over bridge of nose at night this will keep it moist. I feel your Pain it's it easy been pregnant sometimes . So take yourself to doctor and along with the natural remedies im sure you'll feel better soon.

Be careful that you squirt the correct solution up your nose, and if you prepare your own at home, make sure that you use boiled water in order to kill any bacteria.
