Is this normal? With DC1 they started about 24 weeks but were never that strong. With DC2 they started about 20 weeks but by time I got to 34 weeks I was admitted twice as thought I was in labour as they were so strong and painful. Now on DC3 and they have started already and are quite strong enough to make me stop and notice.

What can I do, if anything, to make them stop or go away?

You tend to feel them earlier with each subsequent pregnancy. You actually start having them around 12 weeks and they continue right till the end, but lots of people don't notice them until later. I started feeling them at 16w too (2nd pregnancy for me). Not sure if you can stop them as they're a natural part of the pregnancy process. But you can try and see if anything specific triggers them for you (for me it's physical exercise and/or cold air) and avoid those situations if possible.
