Changing moles during pregnancy...

So I have a pretty big mole right above my public bone that's changed quite a bit since I've been pregnant. It was always big (about 5mm across) but seems to have got a bit bigger and is now raised in the middle. Because of where it is it's impossible for me to see it but DP mentioned it this morning.

I'm going to see the doctor about it this afternoon but just wondered if anyone had anything similar happen? I'm 36 weeks now and it's only been raised in the middle since pregnancy began. Do you think it could be a result of increased blood flow in the area? DP did a Dr Google search this morning which threw up lots of scary results including the fact that melanoma is the most commonly diagnosed cancer during pregnancy because hormones can actually aggravate it...?

I had a mole on my arm change in pregnancy, went to see a dermatologist after ds was born and they said it was really common in pregnancy for moles to change. They removed it under a local anaesthetic as a precaution but it was completely benign.

Some of mine got bigger during pregnancy. It's something to do with increased blood flow and not generally something to worry about but no harm in checking if you are concerned as better to be safe than sorry. In the usual way, the more concerning changes tend to be crusting/bleeding/change in shape (rather than just size)

Do you think it becoming raised in the centre would count as 'change in shape'? DP did one of these checklists this morning and seems to think it has 3 or 4 criteria in the 'scary zone'. Wink

I had quite a few that changed when I was pregnant and had to remove a couple on my back. They turned out to be fine, but always check.

A girlfriend of mine had a mole near her ear that got massive during preg (at least doubled in size) - she had it removed straight after giving birth, but it was totally benign and dermatologist explained that moles / skin often changes loads during pregnancy.

I too had a weird skin tag appear on my forehead during my 3rd preg - totally freaked me out but strangely, since baby arrived 18 mnths ago, it has almost shrunk back to nothing & Dr isnt concerned at all.

Ask your Dr to check for your own reassurance, but really honestly don't worry - more than likely its due to pregnancy
