can anyone actually describe what pushing a baby out feel like

It feels like a massive amount of pressure that makes you think you are going to split in to which comes in huge surges (like heaving when sick but from the other end). The actual baby coming out bit is a burning, stinging stretching pain that unfortunately you have to push through (ie make worse before it will get better!) but you are so close to it all being over you just do it!

As above, like having a massive poo but the ring of fire (crowning) got me.

But it's all worth it and I'm doing it all over in eight weeks!

I hallucinated chimpanzees at the crowning stage, somewhere in my head I think I actually became a chimp. Sort of primal reaction to it, I think.

TBH I barely remember the pain now, and I've done it three times.

My middle one was the only one I didn't have an epidural for. When it came to crowning, I was almost relieved, as I felt I knew what I had to get past to get him out. It hurt with the contraction and him coming further down, but they tend to slip back up a little between each contraction, so the pain reduces a bit, albeit briefly. After the first sting of crowning, and the feeling of 'ok, that's what I have to get through' it was only about three more contractions, and he was out. I was so relieved it was all over, I forgot to scoop him up from under water, and the midwife had to grab him. Awesome experience! Take it you're due a baby soon?

Transition makes you feel insane, crowning hurts a fair bit then the body slithers out like a dolphin/squid - very strange but not at all as bad as it's made out to be.

Pushing - bit like the pushing feeling of doing a massive poo. But bigger. And it comes and goes - the urge to push that is.

Crowning feels like burning. Stretch your mouth wide and push down the sides to stretch further - you feel a kind of burning? That's crowning but it's your fanjo.

Yes you can go a bit doolally with the pain. I think I said I was off to get on a boat and sail away...

Have you ever had piles? When you have piles and have to do a big poo, there's a mental conflict between 'this is going to hurt, I don't want to do it' and 'i have to get this out' and eventually you just have to go for it, and if you try and avoid the pain you're actually more tense and it hurts more than if you relax as much as you can.

I was very scared about episiotomy/tearing beforehand, it was my worst nightmare. I did have a little tear, never noticed it at the time and it was no more than mildly uncomfortable (really; like a normal cut in your leg) afterwards.

It's pretty much as you'd expect! Lots of joint stretching, skin stretching and pressure in your pelvic region. I didn't feel like I was splitting in two although a friend described it like that... However it was like doing the biggest poo of your life (sorry TMI!) but you CAN do it!

I was in the pool and it didn't feel painful for me. Just the pressure of pushing.

Yes to feeling like you are going to split in two or that the baby is going to come out your bum.

Ring of fire burns/stings but doesn't last very long, I didn't get the ring of fire at all for my water birth and he was 10lb 13oz with a head circumference off the top of the chart!

Remember to breathe, gas and air is good!

Its worth it, I have five and still get tempted to have another!

well TMI.....but i had a midwife that described it as having a big poo when constipated....that feeling that you have to bear down and push with every fibre of your being, but not getting very far, before taking a couple of big breaths and trying again - all read faced and straining.

I must say I concur with her description!

Crowning is not dissimilar to the next part - pushing out a horrible hard stool, with the stinging, burning sensation....only its in your foof rather than your bum. It does sting like barstard, but at that point, you dont actually care. I think theres also a dull ache deeper in your foof, plus the cramping contractions, but to be honest, the stinging is the biggie that obliterates all else.

Once baby's head is out, the rest is relatively easy.

It's like having an itch from hell, and then scratching it with a huge metal claw. Bloody painful but satisfying. I think it's okay tbh.

I don't get on well with contractions tbh. They are far worse imo wrt actual relentless pain.

Feels like you need to do a maaaassssive pooh and it really hurts like hell but you are gonna have to do it anyway. It feels like it's the size of a watermelon but there is no stopping it.

It's good tho because you have no choice and what you get as a result makes anything worthwhile
