I got the norovirus at the weekend and am 31 weeks pregnant, Ended up being hospitalised due to dehydration and baby was in distress. All seems ok now but I am completely off my food. I don't mean to be flippant but all I can manage is 7up and some jelly. I am really worried about babies health as this can't be good. Has anyone else got that dreaded bug this late and did your appetite return soon after? The thought of proper dinner makes me feel sick.
Thanks

As long as you are eating something I don't think it's bad. More important to keep fluids up I would have thought. Your appetite will return soon.

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. I don't have any answers but I would say go easy on yourself. If you can't manage it, then what can you do? I'd also recommend you call up your midwife to ask - at least you'll feel reassured. All the best.

I had norovirus at 10 weeks. It was awful and only after 3rd day could I contemplate eating, and then only Kendal mint cake.

On 5th day I REALLY fancied a few chip shop chips...and so the recovery began!

Try not to worry, your body should hAve plenty of resources for baby to feed on - you do not need to be stuffing yourself 24/7. But if you're still not eating after 5/6 days then speak to your MW or GP.

But do make sure you are keeping as hydrated as possible. That is essential.

The only thing that's wrong is the lack of salts. You'll be fine with jelly and 7up from a hydration point of view, and lack of food might make you a bit dizzy but presumably you'll be having the full fat versions of jelly and 7up?

BUT I would strongly recommend getting some rehydration salts or you'll find yourself in trouble. They do taste disgusting though! Try other fluid sugary stuff too like sorbet or lollies. Your body will recover but it often takes a while after something so horrid.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your replies and the reassurance re babs. I feel ok again just no appetite. I have dioralyte for DD as she had a mild version and I'll try that HP as it might be a bit healthier as you say. Had to laugh Poppadom re the mint cake and the chips, its very likely I will be the same even though a healthy salad would be the better option.

Actually salad would be a disaster, far too hard to digest! Now is the time for unadulterated stodge. Kendal mint cake is an excellent idea!

Well said HP, I look forward to it hopefully soon. Wont be able to look at a bottle of 7up or lucozade for the rest of my life Grin
